I've stayed at the Stratosphere before and am going back in 4 weeks (can't wait!!) :D

Yes it is a bit out of the way, but if you enjoy walking you can still walk to the other attractions on the strip, and as others have mentioned, cabs are cheap enough. Rooms are fine, not particularly luxurious but better than a lot of so-called superior hotels in this country all the same....and Roxy's diner is fab! Enjoy!! :p

I don't know why people are saying it's not in the 'nicest part of the strip'

Because it isn't, that's why ! All as I was saying is that I would not recommend staying in that area of the strip. If you have been before and want to go again, fine. But for a first time visitor, it would be wrong for me to recommend the Stratosphere to them as there are so many better places to stay in Vegas for the same money.

It is right around the corner from a monorail station

I think 'right around the corner' is a bit misleading, nearer to 1/2 mile

Right, no more posts on here from me, back to the dedicated Vegas thread above.

I know what you mean about the anoyying flicking people....they even tried to give them to my 16 year old....I felt like hitting the short dumpy woman that looks just like the guy in your link....she tried to force my girl into taking one of those cards....I felt like screaming at her..."she's a child for f**ks sake....why would she be interested" ....but I doubt she would have understood me anyway....they are just so blinkered....their sole purpose in life being...how many cards can I give out and just how bloody annoying can I be while I do it......grrrr

I do agree that Vegas is not for children....I know I took our Hannah technically still a child but a very mature 16 year old....I wouldn't take a younger child I don't think we did find our time very restricted as we couldn't frequent the bars etc and I know we could have left her in the room watching TV which she would have been quite happy to do but then it was her holiday as well.
We did one night take her back to the room around 11 ish and Al and I went to Margaritaville for a dance.....I couldn't relax though knowing she was on her own and we went back before 12.30....softie that I am....she was fine and gave us what for...

I agree with you...it's all relative in the end anyway...if you've never stayed anywhere else in Vegas and are used to European hotels, probably the Strat will be just fine (though I still think it's a dodgy area after dark ESPECIALLY if you have kids with you)...but relative to what you can get in Vegas for a very good price, it's hopelessly poor value for money.

At the end of the day, everyone will make their own decision based on the info provided and if someone opts for the Strat, then that's great...they've made their decision based on various reviews.

Personally, I would absolutely hate staying at the Strat and never will...and I don't need a posh hotel, so that's not it at all...just that for the same or slightly more money you can get a much nicer place in a much nicer location. :)
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Ooohh I stayed in the Stratosphere just there in September and it is fabulous! I don't know why people are saying it's not in the 'nicest part of the strip' - there was absolutely nothing wrong with where it was and we walked home plenty of times with no trouble.!
Hi,I have the same veiw as you! I can't see the problem with the Strat or its position  Someone at work keeps begging me not to go back to the Strat!
