just read at Open Vegas (which I still read occasionally, but refuse to post to) that the Rio->Caesars shuttle is currently non-operational and it's not known officially whether it will start up again...the other shuttles are still running.

Doesn't seem to say why...I remember some Caesars regulars complaining that it declassed the place to have a shuttle from/to Rio...some seemed to intimate that it brought the riff-raff in...so maybe they got their way?

More likely probably due to rising petrol costs and the fact that there are 3 other shuttles from Rio to the strip, though none to the west side of the strip...would seem to have made more sense to kill the Flamingo or Harrahs service instead.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

See, that's still expensive to me...I remember getting gas for $0.77/gallon in about 1998, so. :)

I didn't realise that gas prices in the US had gone down so much recently...at least not to any significant low. Huh. Now seems even stranger that they've canned that shuttle.

Excellent link, Actually reading the reviews and looks like TI is a near guaranteed upgrade...Though im tempted to try doubling the $20 to try and get a suite.

Also on the up side is the Dollar...It was about 1.46 yesterday and 1.53 today on XE...hope it continues!

can't help YET i'm afraid - sure someone on here can though! :)

we fly NWA in April (NWA there (Heathrow -> Detroit, Detroit -> Vegas), then US airways for a small internal flight (Vegas -> LA), then Air France on the way back (LA -> Paris -> Heathrow)

fun fun fun!!! what a nightmare journey!!! only went for it cos it was proper cheap :) plus the benefits of an unplanned Vegas trip will outweigh the pain of the return journey i'm sure! :)

I really dont like Vegas no leg room, old planes on LGW - LAS route and many many stag nights. I fly UNited and try to go via SFO or LAX this for me is by far the best option without paying silly dollar

Do you know if the $20 trick works at Excalibur....how likely are you to get an upgrade to a widescreen room?

I got more than an upgrade! My visit report is here...http://www.markford.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Ford/vegas2008.html (you don't have to read all of it!)

We did VS LHR-SFO and back VS LAX-LHR. Admittedly the outward was UC, but even the return at the back of the Airbus was a decent flight and comfortable.....(and the in-flight entertainment also worked!!!) felt fine when I landed even though had been travelling for almost a day (we drove to LA).
