Update on FairFX safety of funds issue.

Basically, if FairFX goes bust - the funds are safe as they are held with NBS (I think this was the gist of the original email).

If NBS goes bust (which wasn't dealt within the original email - which I can understand as it wasn't the question I asked) - I'm told it would take some time and you'd have a chance to withdraw any funds remaining on your card before it all went wrong.

I suppose that ultimately any of the pre-paid cards are probably in the same situation (though the backing financial institutions may differ)...but obviously everyone should do their own research to be sure they are happy with the situation.

Really easy. You just go down to the courthouse downtown with passports and any decre you might have if divorced. Stand in line with loads of other people, up to teller, they stamp everything and charge $65?. That is the licence you have now, just go to any authorised chapel with said licence, get hitched. As I said, we went straight from the courthouse to the drive thru, took about 40 minutes in total from getting licence to getting married

same here . just show up at the place where they issue the License with you Passport . any Taxi driver will know where it is ( near the Golden Nugget downtown) . we had people in full bridal wear and people with shorts and T-shirts in the queue with us .

once you have your license i pretty sure you then marry in any registered place in the state of Neveda .

we spent about $300 in all and the included a set of photos , Broadcast over the Internet ( stays on for a month i think ) , music , Tshirts , bumper stickers and a ride back to our hotel in a limo .

Thanks for the update, seems reasonably safe (ish) so I feel a bit better now. We normally just take $ and draw out of the hole in the wall (debit not visa) if we get short but this does seem an easy way to buy at a locked in rate.

Wynn or Encore for $129/night until 7 May with promo code VIPCODE.

Now it has let me book with this code and there is nothing in the T&C's to say I can't use it, but I'm just a tad nervous of the word "VIP" in the code incase it is a targetted promo.

not strictly on topic , but i got a email today from BMI saying that the credit card fee for booking a BMI flight on your BMI credit card will no longer be waived . i will still pay for any long haul flight on a credit card though after what happened to the likes of MAX jet and Zoom .

Not sure I agree with the "take some time to go bust" - Icesave went t1ts up overnight, giving noone the chance to take their money out.

If Newcastle were allowed to go bust, ie the FSCS scheme did not pay out presumably because the UK government was bankrupt, a couple of grand on a FairFX card would be the least of all our worries.

Dunfermline Building Society I believe is in the process of being bailed out due to over-exposure to dodgy loans.....I cant believe the UK Govt would let a major savings institution go under, unless of course the UK Govt has gone under.

I'm only reporting what I was told. :)

The FSCS doesn't cover prepaid cards.

Had a massive fight with capitol one (0% card ;) ) as they tried to charge me the exchange fee (2%) for booking American Airlines because they are a US company. Took ages proving to them that the bill was with AA.co.uk not AA.com but finally got it waved.
Must admit card tarting is loosing its atraction with rates as low as they are now

I know magicians were recently mentioned and travelzoo has an offer for Lance Burton (25% off) through 24th May.

    http://shows.travelzoo.com/las-vegas-shows/557400?ptl=done&rating=&tppct=

Last time I looked into tickets for Lance Burton the best you could find was $10 off...so seems a really good deal.
