Aside of all this, how could you deliver to the East side of your county and the West side at the same time because Mrs Smith wants her delivery at 8pm and Mrs Jones does too?
Good point - The customers will be asked to register with me, so i can get their delivery address, contact details and issue the identifier reference number at this point I will ask for there ideal delivery window (2hr window). upon planning the route of delivery prior to the evening a text would be sent advising the estimated delivery time.

How would you contact these people to arrange this time?
I will have all the customer contact details with me in the van to enable text alerts to advise customers of expected delivery times.

thankyou all for your useful comments.

my question is then: What you make you trust me with your deliveries??

    maybe some online testimonials?

I don't mean to offend you but personally I wouldn't trust you or anyone I didn't know with my deliveries. Having said that I am a very paranoid person :D My concerns with any third party taking delivery of my parcels would be...

    1) How do I know that the "depot" has received my parcel and not just kept it? (if its an unsigned parcel)
    2) If my parcel was delivered to me and was damaged, who would I claim against? You or RM?

I would maybe take notice of an e-bay style feedback system. I never believe "testimonial" style comments for products in magazines/newspapers etc. My paranoid side would probably think you had paid friends to write them ;) Also companies tend to only publish good comments...not bad ones.

I hope none of this has offended you. Its just my opinion and as I said before I'm a very paranoid person. Even though I see myself as an optimist my pessimistic side isn't ever very far away.

Back to my original figures, you would have to take about 300 parcels a week minimum to make this work (probably a lot more if you take into account the financing and insuring and running of a van), which on average means you would have to deliver those over say five nights, (ruling out saturday nights and sunday nights) therefore you would have to deliver 60 parcels a night in a four hour timespan - assuming a 18:00 kickoff and 22:00 finish. Thats 15 an hour - one every four minutes. There is just no way that could be done, plus some people won't be in, some delivery companies deliver up to 20;00 hrs, so you would have to wait for them. Plus all the problems with people saying the delivery company delivered it to you, proving they didn't, damaged items - you sign to say the box is undamaged - you give it to the person, they open it and its damaged - who pays?

all very nice in theory, but just a complete minefield to implement.
