ummm guys the UK is supposed to get colder due to global warming
my understanding is we'll end up similar temp to Moscow0 -
It's minus 7 celcius where I am (Midlands). The doom mongers said Global Warming was here to stay!
But to remain on topic with the board: I wonder how many will be forced to choose between paying their mortgage or the heating bill?
Thanks to the reduction in BOE, I`ve been able to keep heating same as this time last year. I also fixed it Feb 09 before the increases.0 -
Ah yes but if it weren't for global warming it might have been minus 9 celcius rather than minus 7 celsius. Weather fluctuates, global warming is about long term trends. Dismiss it at your (or your children's) peril.0

I love the cold, you can get warm a lot easier than you can get cool and it has the great effect of killing off all the nasty bugs and germs:j .0

Indeed, London is on the same line of latitude to Moscow near enough, but the UK is kept warmer by the Gulf Stream. The theory goes that when the polar ice caps melt fresh water flows into the sea and prevents the flow returning to the Gulf of Mexico, stopping the cycle, and thus stopping the warming effect on the British Isles.
Last time I looked into it there wasn't conclusive evidence that it was happening/would happen.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -
I know wikipedia isn't the most respectable source, but may be a good introduction:

Yummy house...is this the Hall House that can't have central heating due to it's wooden frame?
I'd tell your dad to get planting some veg on the lawn.....it's going to be a toughy few years ahead.;)0 -
If the Russians & Ukranians falll out over gas, could we see some interesting shortages shortly?
I'm moving to an all-electric house next week, but I'd guess that sudden increases in demand are handled best by the gas-powered stations, so it seems that no one would be 'safe,' should there be a gas shortage.0
