hi i bought a car 18 months ago from a garage for 8500 i tried to part ex it today and was told it was a cat d wright off and instead of the 6k i was expecting to get for it was offered 2500 which was the best they could do for me, im gutted, is there anything i can do like taking the garage to court to try an get some of my money back? is it true they dont have to tell you for cat c and d wright off's.
could you tell me what car it was that has only lost 2.5k in 18 months
you would have been lucky to get offered 6k for it as a px the following day let alone 18 months down the line
if it was a desirable car 8500-00 might have been a cheap price and that is what attracts people to these sort of deals in the first placeremember it is nice to be important
but more important to be nice0 -

Have to agree here, I bought a 28k mile 55 plate ghia x mondeo in May (for 8500) then found out the wife was having twins so needed a peoplecarrier/minibus. Took it back in July with 30k on it an got offered 6k trade in, another garage was 5800.0 -
its a smart roadster brabus, and the honda dealer said they would give us £5750 for it as part ex right before he did the hpi check.
yes i have checked the new car although there was no need as honda took the car as part ex from somebody else so had already done a check on it.
i know i have been the stupid one here for not doing the check, but come on, this sort of thing shouldnt be allowed to happen, iv lernt a lesson now, and have to say im quite clued up now as to the catergorys of write off's and where u stand when it comes to buying one but i wasnt at the time as im sure many people arnt, there should be a law in place to stop this sort of thing happening.0 -
It will be interesting to see what dealer sells car for - probably send it to auction and make big profit. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

I just may have missed something that has already been posted but I am sure a dealer cannot sell a car that is any cat right off without disclosing it, hence the last suggestion that it gets disposed off through the auction, for which a buyer would have to purchase an indemnity to protect the auction room from falling into the same trap. Not sure what effect the 18 month time frame has tho'I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Hang on folks for a garage to sell a car they must do an hpi check its part of being a dealer that they have to do that.
If for example the hpi didnt show the car as an insurance loss then the garage can claim to the hpi company.
you should definetely go back to selling garage ...0 -
Yep thats what I thought, but what does the garage have to do about it?, supply the report?, not sell it?
The time issue may come into play here, but I'm sure the OP is right.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Hmmmmmm if you've bought from a garage they should by law tell you it's a CATD. And you should go back and insist upon money back due to financial loss...
If you'd bought it from Joe Bloggs from his house then you have no come backs. At all...0 -

I find it amazing how people "fall pregnant" or say "un-expected pregnancy" or "found out they were pregnant"
Did you use condoms? Yes - well you wont be pregnant.
did you use condoms? No - well there is a good chance of being pregant...0 -

Maybe they were planning having a child? And a Mondeo would have been adequate? Is that OK with you? Maybe the fact that it was twins was a surprise? Or do you have some advice for the OP on how to avoid having twins?0
