Control Panel, Network Connections, Highlight your Wireless device, Change settings of this device, Highlight TCP/IP then Properties. Have you got Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically boxes checked? yes they are all checked
If you have do not wireless encryption set up, you should definitely go to Home > Wireless and change the SSID to a unique name of your choice e.g. NotFreeInternetNow and enable WPA-PSK All done, thanks for this, I feel much better now that there are no strangers lurking!
I also did the turn all pc's off, router off, modem off. Then turned everything back on. Modem, router, pc's. Unfortunately the problem is still there. It seems to be directly linked to where you are in the house.
Laptop in lounge, DS bedroom ok, dining room no.
Laptop in my bedroom wont work if DS is using his in his bedroom
PC in dining room will work if just my laptop on upstairs!!
Slowly losing the will now!

The best thing i can suggest is getting someone in to look at the problem, as it's easier to solve things when you are actually at the problem rather than suggesting things from a far.
If you know someone that might be able to help you, ask them to come round and have a look, failing that get in touch with local uni/college anad see if any of the students would like to earn a little cash, will be cheaper than calling someone out.
Hope you get it all sorted as it sounds like a bit of a headache.Sometimes i surprise myself by being right.0 -
Can you see any other wireless networks? e.g. neighbours. If so what wireless channel are they using? You could try changing the wireless channel in your router to one as far away from any in use locally. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I had a similar problem recently when I was adjusting the settings due to having issues with the signal dropping (previous post logged).
After fixing the issue with the signal, one of my machines was demonstrating this issue - even though it could see the network, it was not displaying web pages.
I eventually deleted all browsing history, including cached files and cookies from the PC through internet explorer and this fixed it.Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

There are 4 other security enabled wireless networks that I am picking up. However I'm not sure how I find out what channel they are using? Although one does say 'Virgin' which is my provider?0 -

If you download Netstumbler here it should show what channel these other wireless networks are on, so you you can choose a channel well away from those in use. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Having problems with this but I have found some more info on laptop. got this up when having problems
NetStumbler will not work on every computer as it depends on what wireless chip is used, however I would be surprised if it doesn't work on one of your three machines, which is all that you need to find out what wireless channels are in use locally.
You could try disabling IPv6 as it's not actually needed. More info here:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
