Have you asked the person who pays £29 why this is the price? You may find they are on a corporate discount etc. Discounts apply for various employers, do you work locally? You could try and negotiate this on behalf of your employer. These discounts can also be applied to family members of the employee - could you be related to the person paying £29?

Alternatively, Virgin does have an option to move to a membership where fees are guaranteed not to increase (diamond member?) so maybe it is an old membership.

  • On Sunday I visited my local LA fitness and bought 20 guest passes for £50
Thats a full day pass (you can leave and return during the day) AND you dont have to visit with an exisiting member!
Thats a deal and means I dont feel guilty when I miss a few days

Hi which la fitness was this? did you go in with a member?

I was a member there for seven years, joined when it was a Holmes Place, and promptly left after Virgin totally downsized anything decent in the gym including the trainers...some of whom left when I did. You can haggle the costs down, if you say that you are studying, (even a weekend course) you can apply for student membership. If you are looking to go on the machines and no classes there are two other gyms in the City centre that are only £9.99/month and are open 24/7, like puregym and the one at City Tower.

Personally I would not go back to the Printworks Virgin, my opinion, not worth the money at all!

i've just joined the galleon in didsbury, manchester (2 minutes walk from parrs wood complex). they have some membership offers on there at the minute - i got 9 months student membership for £150 and all i had to do was produce my salford uni library card.

That's exactly the same as their full peak membership (full access 6.30am - 10pm mon-fri, 8am - 9.30 sat & sun), but for 9 months and £200 less!

i asked about full membership for my friend and they're willing to do 12 months full peak membership for adults for £299.99 (down from £349.99) which works out at £25 p/m

it's a really nice gym aswell and is deadly quiet during the day
    helpful tips
    it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)
  • For all those who use Pruhealth to get cheaper membership, I just received a letter in the post today stating that as of next year the deal is changing, so gym membership fees will be changing to a fixed discount of 25% off the normal price regardless of your vitality status.

Wont know the exact figures till my renewal date which is 10 months away, so plenty of time to find a cheaper deal.

I suspect the monthly premium may double or triple so it seems unlikely that I will continue with PruHealth as this was one of the main reasons for joining them.

    Oh well.

I just got the same letter - and my mate who I go with - we are gutted but as we have been doing this since the beginning, always suspected it would come to an end at some point - at least I have 10 months notice I suppose. Pruhealth seem to have put the costs of screenings up as well - and I have seen discussion elsewhere that the NCD that currently runs at 100% will be abolished (upping my current £7 fee somewhat). Will have to do the sums next August and see if it is worth my while (I have a horrid feeling it wont be)
  • Hi, seen this new club, well looks like a club for clubs, they seem to be working with the major clubs and local authority gyms.

Basically you buy points from £3 to £8 then you can use the points at a local gym by booking a 2hour slot, so if you pick cheap rates you could use a gym for 25p per hour they say!

They use points because they can't take credit card payments for 25p, too expensive.

gymsaver.com (sorry the system won't let me post a link)

They have not started yet but want support from low paid workers and unemployed people who want to go to a gym, they want votes as to the area a gym should be located and a vote for the type of gym you want, all on the right hand side, and sign up for their newsletter to be informed when gyms are live.

    What does anyone think...?
