Bought BIN item 22/12/08 at 10 am and paid immediately via PayPal Item price £3.99
Because of Christmas wasn't necessarily expecting rapid delivery, p&p cost was £3.99. I couldn't really judge the approximate weight of item (fabric) but seller knew!
Large letter arrived today, small jiffy bag (containing fabric in cellophane sleeve), total weight 97g cost of stamp 52p.
Item OK
Delivery slow but not necessarily seller's fault, cannot decipher postal date.
p&p I think a rip off.
So what feedback would you leave? I'm inclined to not leave any but that wouldn't warn other buyers and the seller has many more of these same items for sale with the same high p&p.

I would first email the seller and ask how they justify such a high p&p price when they only forked out say £1 max.
They are obviously trying to save on their ebay fees.
See what they say, and if they don't refund some of the £3.99 back I'd leave appropriate feedback for them. Just my opinion of course.

Personally I would not leave a negative, because at the end of the day you agreed to purchase the item knowing the postage cost, however as it is blatantly been overcharged mark them down on the start ratings.0

When you buy from ebay you know what the P&p charges are to start with.
So really it would be unfair to leave negative feedback.
I will not bid on an item if I think the charges are too highOwing on CC £00.00 :j
It's like shooting nerds in a barrel0 -
I absolutely despise eBayers who charge extortionate p&p prices.
I remember in the golden olden days sellers would state that buyer is to pay for Paypal fees or pay half or whatever, but this doesn't seem to happen any more. I do not charge buyers to use Paypal, anyway.
I think charging £3.99 for a 52p stamp is quite disgraceful, to be honest, and I would follow the advice of e-mailing the seller and asking why/how they calculated £3.99, and ask for a £3 refund to be paid via Paypal.
I sold a £200 mp3 player recently and set a flat rate delivery charge of £8 for next day before 9am delivery on it. I had no idea how much it would cost, but, by looking at similar items on eBay, I noticed that it was roughly around the £10 mark, or in some cases, even more.
Anyway it cost £6.40 for special delivery 9am, so I 'made' £1.40 on this. I'd have no hesitation refunding the difference if the buyer requests it. After all, the postage charge isn't a part of the item cost.
Really annoys me it does when buyers are ripping people off just to save on paying the fees, or, in many cases, to further line their pockets.
Leave negative feedback if s/he will not refund you £3.0 -

So you are relying on the seller being honest
Contact them and await the excuses...
£1.50 max would be the max I would charge... but thats just me...
Mind you I may have gone as low as £1
See what they come up with
And deal with accordingly

if you bought on the 22nd trhen there were 2 more RM working days before xmas
then the saturday after xmas
then yesterday and today
so max 5 days0 -
I always take postage costs in to consideration before I purchase an item.
If I am happy with the combined price of the item & the P&P then I make my purchase.
Then if I am happy with the item when it arrives I leave positive feedback.
Always bear in mind postage just isn't the price of the stamp its also the cost of the packaging, time taken to go to the post office, any fuel used to get to and from the post office ( I live a 14 mile round trip from my nearest post office which equals about £2.50 - £3 worth of fuel) etc
If am not happy with the price someone has quoted for postage I simply do not buy from them.
Its your choice at the end of the day if you make the purchase or not at the total price.0 -
Thank you all for your replies and suggestions.
I don't want to leave negative feedback, too many people seem to for the wrong reasons. neutral doesn't fit the bill either. Positive feedback with negative comments defeats the overall feedback score. Which is why I felt I would rather leave no feedback.
I have messaged the seller-
Hello, the fabric arrived today, a little later than expected but I appreciate that Christmas Post can be somewhat slow.
The fabric is fine.
I am somewhat disappointed in your P&P charges. I couldn't estimate the weight of the fabric and was relying on you as the seller to have applied a fair amount to cover postal charge and your packaging costs.
The total weight of the large letter was less than 100grammes, postage cost of 52p.
The cost of the Jiffy envelope and the cellophane sleeve I would expect to cost no more than 25p, yet you have charged £3.99
Can you please explain how you justify this because I have looked at Ebay's Excessive Posting And Packaging Policy and your charges are deemed to be excessive.
Regards
I await his response0 -
Although I might have contacted the seller about the excessive p and p I would vcertainly not have mentioned item being even a little slow. Sellers have 7 days in which to despatch, so you got the item even before that time limit.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. This is something that really bugs me with e bay that people can get away with charging rip off prices for postage and e bay don’t seem to care
Whilst you were fully aware that the postage charge was £3.99 when you bid on the item you were not aware that the actual cost of postage was actually 52p so what justifies the extra £3.47 this is what e bay say on the subjectSellers may charge reasonable postage & packaging charges to cover the costs of posting, packaging, and handling the items they are selling. While eBay will not prescribe exactly what a seller may or may not charge, eBay will consider member reports when determining whether or not a seller’s postage, handling, packaging, and/or insurance charges are excessive. Postage & packaging and handling charges may not be listed as a percentage of the final sale price.
In addition to the final listing price, sellers are permitted to charge:
Actual Postage cost: This is the actual cost of delivering the item.
Handling Fee: Actual packaging materials costs may be charged. A handling fee in addition to actual postage cost may be charged if it is not excessive. Sellers who want to be sure they are in compliance with this policy may charge actual postage costs plus actual packaging materials cost.
Sellers tend to hide behind the handling fee when justifying rip off postage charges0
