Leave feedback or not?

  • Guess I'm just one of the stupid folks who think that fair play and honesty works both ways.

Thanks for the input everyone, I will leave feedback as I see fit.

    Consider this closed.
Fair play and honesty; so in charging more for postage but saving overall they have broken this covenant?

Of course what feedback you leave is your prerogative, just as it was before you started this thread.
  • Sorry I disagree, fabric can weigh very heavy so you the OP quite undertandably probably thought it was heavy and would cost this amount to send, it didn't therefore the seller should refund the difference. The few items I have sold in the past if the P&P I have charged has actually turned out to be less I have refunded the extra when I sent the item, even if it was 25p!

I get sick of sellers charging extortionate P&P charges, I don't agree with all this 'well you have to pay for time/fuel etc to get to the post office', ebay's rules state that fair handling charges are actual postage and actual packaging costs, not the amount of time and petrol it takes you to get to the post office aswell!

I find it the most with CD's and DVD's that are so light yet some sellers want to charge £5 P&P, it's disgusting!

If I were the OP I would contact the seller explain as you have done that you think P&P was excessive in relation to their actual costs incurred and ask for a small gesture?, if they don't then I would leave neutral. Feedback is supposed to reflect your total buying experience, not just whether you received the item as described or not.

BTW, I have only ever left a negative once out of approx 500 transactions so I'm not one for leaving negs lightly

It's not the point of 'overall cost' thing, it's the principle of being fleeced, and fee avoidance.

I'm with the OP on this, and I hope the seller gets the FB they deserve.

Surely the OP had a good idea what weight fabric was being sold?

If you don't like the postage price, or the purchase price and postage combined total, then don't bid. It really is that simple.

Especially don’t bid and then complain afterwards or leave bad feedback abut something that was clearly stated in advance.

If I see someone selling CDs with high postage, I either don’t bid or I bid lower accordingly.

I take the p&p cost into account when setting my maximum bid.

Ebay has a search option based on price plus postage.

There has been no unfair play and no dishonesty.

What is your ebay user ID.

I want to block you from bidding on anything I sell. :D

Wasn't going to respond, but couldn't resist.

    What is your user ID?

I want to make sure I don't bid on any of your items:D
  • The only way the OP would know the weight of the fabric being sold is if she happened to have a piece of fabric herself of the same grade and size, would then have to parcel it up and weigh it to judge what postage she should be charged, do you suggest that that is what all buyers do before purchasing an item off ebay?

As a buyer, you expect sellers to be honest, by offering items at a cheap price but then hiding additional costs in the P&P to make this up is out of order, of course we all take in P&P costs into account before bidding but sometimes its difficult to gauge, in these cases you trust the seller to be fair, hiding profit amongst P&P charges is unfair, I would much rather pay for an item at £7 and £1 P&P than pay £4 for the item and £3 P&P if the P&P ended up only costing £1, its about honesty and trustworthiness and sellers should be honest enough to stop hiding additional costs within P&P, or expect negative feedback as a result

You were obviously happy with the total price of the item (winning bid + postage), so provided the item arrived in the condition you expected, what it cost the seller to post is irrelevant.

It seems that you got what you wanted, in a reasonable time and at a price you were happy to pay, so to me thats positive feedback. By all means reduce the star rating for postage.
  • And just a pointer.......
When you mark them down on star ratings...
Make sure you give a rating as if yu dont give a star for p&p....
    It wont affect then ;)
