Although I might have contacted the seller about the excessive p and p I would vcertainly not have mentioned item being even a little slow. Sellers have 7 days in which to despatch, so you got the item even before that time limit.

On their listings they state Items sent 1st Class after receipt of cleared payment. I know that ebay allows 7 days to despatch, but decent sellers will usually post asap.

As I said I wasn't too bothered about the delivery time and had the p&p not been so blatantly excessive I wouldn't have commented.

On their listings they do offer to refund if you're not 100% happy, but postage is at your expense. Now that's a good one I can send it back for 52p and get my £3.99
back.and it will have only cost me £4.51 for the privilege and the lesson learned.

I used to make-up my postage costs as I went along, then I bought a set of parcel scales. As I no longer have to play 'guess the weight', it makes calculating P & P much easier.

I make it my policy to round-up P&P to cover such costs as mileage to/from Post Office, packing materials & time spent wrapping/posting item.

In this case, I reckon p&p of £1.25 would have been reasonable.

Oh God, not postage charges again.

You paid a total of £7.98.

That sounds very reasonable to me.

How much time and money would it have cost you to drive to a fabric shop, find what you want, pay for it and return home?

The seller did all the legwork for you while you sat at home.

You knew the postage price before you bid.

The seller exceeded all ebay despatch and delivery requirements and deserves positive feedback.

Would you rather have paid £7 BIN price plus 98p postage?

    .

The seller decided the BIN price, as is his right, whether or not it was 'fair' and I accepted it.

The p&p price was unfair, given that I had no idea of the weight of the item prior to receipt of same and had I known the weight I wouldn't have bought.

But, it was a lesson learned and sadly, many more will "pay" for the privilege of learning the same lesson if it is not highlighted with this particular seller.

I have no problem with paying a fair price for p&p, when I have sold items I have always played fair and it has sometimes been to my cost, but I can say I have never overcharged anyone for p&p.
  • So yes the p&p price was high, but it just meant the BIN was lower. I really don't understand people who so they've 'done', because you haven't.

It's a combined price- if postage was less the BIN would of been higher. You would also probably end up paying more because the seller would have to charge more to cover the extra fees.

Guess I'm just one of the stupid folks who think that fair play and honesty works both ways.

Thanks for the input everyone, I will leave feedback as I see fit.

Surely you could have a reasonable stab at guessing the cost of posting a piece of fabric. The Post Office have online easy to use price calculators.

Perhaps the seller lives a long way from a Post Office and posting your package may have cost 20p for a jiffy bag, 52p for a stamp and £3.27 in petrol and other travel costs.

But all that is beside the point.

The seller listed at £3,99 BIN plus £3.99 delivery.

You bought at £3,99 plus £3.99 delivery.

You got the item within a very reasonable timescale.

What is there to complain about?

It was obviously worth £7.98 to you or you would not have bought it.

£3,99 delivery is not excessive on ebay compared to many prices I have seen.
