Rear bearings - a bit nervous!!
Hi all, looking for a bit of friendly money saving advice!
The rear bearings on my 53 Vectra 2.2 Elite are in desperate need of replacement. The front ones were done a few months back at a cost of £500 at my local kwik-fit (they had coroded). Now I need the back ones doing and i'm very nervous about how much i'm going to get quoted!
Could anyone advise a target price or where I should go? My logic is saying that the back ones will cost the same?!
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks!

When i had the previous model Vectra, my o/s/r bearing was a little rough - i had to fit a new part which included an ABS sensor as well as the bearing as it was a combined part.I don't know if yours is similar.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

The back ones on my veccy cost about £300 to do, but it was under a warranty at the time.
However I would not entertain Kwik Fit at all, surprised they didn't want to replace all your shocks too! I wouldn't trust them to change a light bulb.
Find a friendly non franchised garage and get a couple of opinions. It could just be the handbrake sticking on?A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0 -

Are you CERTAIN that BOTH rear ones have failed? As Vectra's of that series suffer HORRENDOUS rear tyre wear, which causes noises similar to a poor bearing...
Thanks for reply, i'm pretty sure, not much of an expert but rear tyres are less than a year old, have good wear and I only do around 7k miles a year if that helps? Also, car is vibrating a little in the past week and feels like something is holding it back a little, thought it might be related...0 -
Thanks for quick reply guys, already think i'm going to the local garage round the corner!0

not to mention the front AND rear discs AND pads and full exhaust and bulbs and possibly an aircon regass and springs. BUT they will do a free oil change...0 -

So so true mate.
Took my car for the cheapie oil change. Guess what? List of faults given to me.....quite why as I had not asked for this.
Fault 1. Incorrect battery fitted. Well, slap me down with a wet haddock, but what has this to do with an oil change? Battery works ok and is only one year old.
Fault 2. Rear silencer blowing. Errm oh no its not (it is the pantomime season after all!
Fault 3. Ball joint bugggered. Well thanks for the advice lads but your quote of £150 (for starters I would assume) is a canny bit more than the £49 that my friendly local guy charged to replace and fit.
Fault 4. Winter tyres fitted. Well shucks.
Need I go on?

how many miles has this car done0

only about 55k. Bearings shouldn't have gone on that mileage but the front ones had clearly corroded (saw them-knackered)0
