as said on another post, still not getting alot of help with CCCS. they are refusing to take some of what i feel are essentials into consideration. a friend of mine said she had heard of a disability web site helping you with br etc but cant remember what is called? anyone heard of it? it certainly would help if the paperwork the cccs is anything to go, is a bit overpowering?????

Can i just say and this is by no means a criticism of you homealone. CCC's cut allowances to the bare bones to get as much money as possible to repay creditors. My OH was told £400 housekeeping was too much for 3 adults for a month:eek: . The allowances in bc are far more generous. When i went bc i was allowed £580 housekeeping for 3 adults:rolleyes: Just wanted to show you an example. Still does not excuse their attitude and i would be tempted to make a complaint.Dx

    Hi Homealone

I am so sorry you had a bad experience with CCCS but like so many companies there are good and bad experiences. Do give them a second chance and ring back for another appt with a new counsellor and do complain if you feel you were treated badly. Its only by complaining that any company can change its procedures.

I would echo everyone else's comments in that your son's DLA is not your income and this will affect any surplus you have. Once this income is discounted then other options will become available, so do ring them back on the helpline 0800-138-1111. Good luck!

mazzatee has a good point and i would complain and certainly dont be scared to as like mazzatee says they can have a word with the member of staff and retrain if need be.

I recently had to complain about my OR and its a worrying thing to have to do as you dont want to get there back up but it was serious and it could have happened again getting someone else into serious trouble so i complained and they put there hands up and sent me a nice letter and really the only way they know if something is wrong is if you complian and im sure they have a procedure to complain and hopefully put you on to one of there better staff.

    Hiya homealone,

The charity for your particular disability may be able to help, we've had members who have had success that way, one that springs to mind is the MS Society. I don't know what yours would be, but it's worth a go.

At the end of the day the CCCS person was wrong, as long as your debts outweigh your assets you are insolvent and can go BR, regardless of how much surplus you may have. You do not need CCCS to say yes, you can go BR, you have sought advise, but do not agree with it, you can decide yourself if you think BR is right for you, we all do!

  • hello homealone, i didnt have a good experience with CCCS either they stripped everything back to leave me with £150 surplus(1 of the credit cards was min payment of £100, so you can tell how far that £150 would stretch), im on benefits aswell i only get income support CTC and CHB and wanted me to do a DMP. but wouldnt allow a good budget for things like new clothes for the children so meant if kids needed clothes i would have to cut back on food, i have a baby and toddler so they grow quite fast. they basicly laughed at even having a holiday/emergency type fund of £40.

just because they gave you advice it doesnt mean you have to take it

if things were bad enough today i find out i am £346.60 in rent arrears as when they set up my new DD which was to be weekly, they waited a month then changed it to weekly so now 3 weeks behind so they suggested it was in my best interest to pay an additional £10 a week on top. thankfully i get housing benefit so it will be just the £10 a week i pay but its certainly all adding up. as i still have not decided which is the best way to go br or dmp thought i better grab bull by horns and set up a DD to cover both gas and electricity bills that were £264 together and they have been sat looking at me since 19th december so that now totals £121 a month which was not a bad guess on my SOA. did have a quickie look on dfw but they not as quick to respond as my regulars on here. i tell you some days i wonder where i would be without you!!!!

Have you made another appointment with CCCS? Or rung one of the other charities?? As you say, things are getting worse instead of better, and now you have the ball rolling better to keep it moving so you can sort things out for you and your son.

i have made another appointment for 10 th feb for them to go through my budget again as i said i did not think i could maintain £322 payments every month. she didnt sound like she thought there was much point as i said earlier they dont count a lot of stuff. SOA on here left a bit more scope but there budget you fill in is not the same. have not contacted anyone else yet as i think i am scared they will all sing from the same hymm sheet. plus if anything like CCCS you have an initial chat but then need to wait up to 2 weeks for someone to go through your budget. i just feel totally overwhelmed with it. only just held it together today to sort rent arrears and gas and electricity. am sure when i had a social worker visit when she was organising some aids around the house that she said i could call her if i had any money problems but back then i didnt so i didnt ask her exactly what she meant. was she just offering an ear or could they help sort it all out. i guess there is only one way to find out?
