how does the DS connect to the PC

You don't connect the DS to the PC. Your R4 cartridge (I use a TT card), will have a Micro SD card (you may have to purchase this separately) in it to save the files. Take that out and stick it in the SD adapter you get with it. Then put it in a card reader.

  • Not very techie i'm afraid,

I have an R4 box, it has a micro SD adapter and a USB adapter also a Micro SD card and a cartridge the same as the game cartridges. I would like to put various original titles onto this SD card so that like the op my son does not have to take all the games around with him (He is only 5 and would probably lose them!!!) Is this possible?? If so how would I transfer say FIFa 09 onto this card?

    Thanks in advance.

I think it should work similar to my TT card. You need to download some software first and put on the card.

R4 software you can get from http://www.r4dscart.com/r4-software.html Then you will need to unzip the file, open the folder called "English" and drag and drop all the files onto the Micro SD card. You can put the Micro SD into the adapter and put it into an SD reader. The games for the DS end in .NDS and need to be dragged and dropped onto the card.

A good place to download from is called Romulation, under NDS roms, unzip the file and the bit you want is the file ending in .NDS.

When you have finished, the Micro SD card goes into the little slot in the R4 card (the one which looks like the DS Cartridges) and then put it in the DS console as normal.

All being well you should get a menu come up and all games are listed on screen.

How is it illegal to make backup copies of things I already own?

Covered by Copyright act. You do not have permission to make a copy of it and as they're cartridges, there's no legitimate reason to. It's not like they're CDs that can be scratched.

If you damage one or more of the contacts they won't work. Likewise if the cartridge gets stepped on and breaks you will not be able to get them in and certainly not out of the console
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

In that case, making ghost copies of your hard-drive would also be illegal, therefore Norton Ghost is aiding and abetting an illegal act!

Why is it certain people on here can't answer a simple question without attempting to take the moral high-ground and simply digging themselves into a hole?!?

I'll thank you, Conor, to refrain from assuming and then stating as apparent fact, that I am engaging in an illegal act!!
You do not know me, and are making wild assumptions and assertions about my character!!

If you cannot answer a simple question, then I will also thank you to leave this thread alone!
