One says " my world exists around having new things and watching crap every hour of the day". The other says "TV is not important - if there is an interesting documentary on newts we might let the kids watch for half an hour".A bit like having a 40-50'' slimline tv in comparison to the old 20'' CRT in the corner.0 -

Do people not take pride on the appearances of their homes though? I always have, it's always spotless, it's homely but it is also upto date and modern.
No flowery curtains, patterned carpets or 20'' old CRT heaps in the corner.
An old TV in a house can completely ruin the look, i just wonder what the rest of the decor looks like
A TV isn't just for watching, that's the kind of opinion my 75 year old grandparents would come away with, it has to fit in accordingly with the design of what else is in the room.
Pop an old tv from the dark ages into my living room and it would spoil the overall look 1,000,000 % Might aswell just opt for the old flowery curtains and multi patterned hideous carpets whilst i'm there.
I think some people may be showing their ages.0 -

Taking pride in the appearance of your home doesn't mean splashing out on huge tellies you hardly watch, though!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

My TV is white, it's about 14 inches in size I think, has a little aerial coming out the top, it's in a cupboard in the living room. I wouldn't get a 40" flat screen in there. Nor does my cupboard care whether it's housing a designer TV or not. I think my room looks an awful lot better without a TV as a centerpiece of the room. Instead the alcoves have built in shelves with, GASP, books on them.
Last year when house hunting I was amazed at how nearly everyone had some great big TV taking center stage in their houses and how few books people had. All the chairs would point to the TV, they'd have one in the kitchen too, and in each of the bedrooms. I was once informed that SKY+ was connected throughout the house. They thought that was a selling point.
I'm not sure how a designer TV 'makes a house look good' anyway. I always thought art did that, or nice interior design. I really don't find big TVs impressive. A good collection of board games or a library, that's impressive.
Watching TV is not a particularly productive pastime, it's not something one should be proud of, why buy a TV as a centerpiece to a room that draws attention to that fact?0 -
So we all have different tastes and differents styles that impress us.
Do we need to force our opinions/tastes on others, or belittle the choices that others have made.
For the record we have enough bedrooms for one to be used as a study with hundreds and hundreds of books (we love to read too), photography and other artwork on the walls throughout the house and we also have an 80" image in the lounge on which we watch movies, play Xbox 360/Wii and watch Sky.
It's our home, so we don't have to impress anyone else.0 -

in the centre of my bedroom (i live with family) i have a 23'' lcd tv, and am getting sky+, there is a very good reason for this:
1. i had a 21'' crt tv and it was bulky
2. where i am we are only a few months away from switchover
i dont watch tv much, all sky+ will allow me to do is record what i want, quickly and easily and when i have watched whatever odd programme i want to see i can switch the tv off and do something else, tv fitting around my life rather than me fitting around it.
i have a lot of books, and even more music, a few years ago we decided to put our house on the market, i packed away the majority of the books (it ran into 3 figures back then) and kept the tv and the music collection, someone came and they sneered at the tv and the music ''who needs that much music?'' cheeky !!!!!!!s, if you dont like it say nothing till you are out the door          do i come round to your house and insult what you have? do i go to someone elses house and insult it in front of them? no, i dont do either.
they still offered over the asking price after we got gazumped on somewhere else and ended up withdrawing from the market :rotfl: (we still live in the same house
) things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then

Sky+ is brilliant.
I haven't watched live TV in over 3.5 years.
When I do watch TV, I can skip past all the intro/end credits/adverts and watch a 1 hour programme in 40 minutes (unless it is on BBC), at a time that suits me.0 -
Trust me, I know what you're saying - but Boss is !!!! material!! Try getting a proper suit from Savile Row and you'll see the difference after 6 months of wear. I used to think I was the top dog for wearing Boss etc, but have now stepped up from that to nicer suits that fit first time.Designer labels obviously cannot be tailored:rolleyes:
Any suit will look poor if it isn't fitted correctly.
Some people have very old fashioned views regarding todays fashions which has been made evident in this thread already.
A bit like having a 40-50'' slimline tv in comparison to the old 20'' CRT in the corner. Both do the same job of course, 1 will make your living room look hideous and the other will make it look nice and modern. Same can be said about clothing;)
IMO of course....It's good that we all have different tastes:p
A better comparison would be two 40" tv's, one of which is a Beko but with a "proper" badge on, and the other is hand made from the best components around.
Also, part of the reason for not wearing Boss anymore is also that I don't fancy being kitted out by a Nazi, I'd rather be kiited out by boateng, gieves + hawkes, etc.0 -

I don't think there will be 40 kept on...only sitting at 29 just now...but they are in nogotiations for some others.
USC would not have survived without him doing this...it was not just a way to ditch stores.
I agree with others, it does not look good...but he is not doing it to avoid paying creditors.
We cannot ignore supplier bills because we still need to keep in the good books with them, or they would not supply us for the stores we are keeping.
We are not ignoring the landlords as a lot of them own the shopping centres of stores that we are still in...we are talking to them to try to come to agreements on what to do which would help both sides. The last thing they want is for companies like USC to go down the pan, as we drive a lot of customers into their shopping centres...if they dissapear a lot of other shops would shut down too.
Anyone else that we are not dealing with now...there are 20 odd shops FULL of stock that the administrators are going to use to make some cash, and Tom paid MILLIONS to buy back the stores we have now. There will be a lot of money available to spread around.
Thanks for the info about returns policy, the stores themselves dont seem to realise this but hey ho. I didnt realise as few as that many stores were being kept. Whatever happens i hope you keep your job...as much as some people seem to be loving the demise of the company(ies) recently i think they should be thinking a tad more about the number of extra people out of work and what that will do to society as a whole.
It's the simple case that USC sell clothes to a clientele that a small few on this forum think they are superior to. I didn't think people who posted regularly on forums where alllowed to feel superior to anyone. Now I know it's permitted I'm going to spend the evening picking some social groups that I can laud over. I'm going to start with pensioners.
Hahahahah that made me laugh!0 -

Hey sorry to bother you about this again. Just wondering how you can be sure about this as i rang one of the stores staying open and they're saying they dont do refunds.
Cheers Ed0
