Out of interest, what constitutes a 'designer' label.
I've got a Ralph Lauren jumper on (which I assume is a designer brand), ASDA jeans (which I'm pretty certain aren't designer) and a Berghaus coat (well known brand, but is it designer?), plus Timberland boots (D or non-D?)
I'm finding it very difficult working out whether I'm an aging Chav or just aging disgracefully0 -
lol you big chav you

who cares really
maybe i am a chav :S but im doin no harm to any of the people here if i am!!!

you're an M 'n' M !!.
The good lady wife worked for numerous ladies mags and this phrase was dreamt up in a meeting.
It stands for mix and match btw.
I have Ralph Lauren & Lacoste (designer or chav - take your pick), M&S, DNA Groove (designer, certainly not chav), Cotton Traders, Ben Sherman, Lambretta shirts.
Jeans - Stone Island, H&M, Levis
Jackets - Baracuta, a couple of 'brand free' Harringtons, some Tk Maxx thing.
Shoes/Boots - Timberlands, Doc Marten, Brand Free
Trainers - Don't wear them, they're for chavs

You'll find another. Hopefully with a company that provides a good service to society rather than selling the crap that USC did to teenagers that don't know any better and had to use their credit cards to buy overpriced nonsense.
You'll be fine, you'll find something much better. Good luck with it, losing a job is always terrible but most find that the grass is often greener so don't despair.
Typical British responce these days!!!
Blame the bad shops that dare to sell expensive clothes!
DON'T blame the folk that actually run up these debts!
You obviously know nothing about retail.
We sell these clothes because there is a demand for them.
We charge a lot of money because we ourselves are getting charged a lot of money for buying them.
I assure you, our margins are a lot lower than ASDA, etc that sell them for 20 quid!
I do not buy much from USC because I can't afford to...if others spend in there and they can't afford to then they only have themselves to blame.
Obviously the demand has dropped because we are going into administration, and that may be because a lot of people cannot afford to buy them any more but if they did before, don;t blame USC etc for supplying them with what they want.0 -

Neither does USC it seems...
Obviously not! If there were you'd still have a job.We sell these clothes because there is a demand for them.
I'd add that it's obviously a very poor business model especially taking into account your next point...We charge a lot of money because we ourselves are getting charged a lot of money for buying them.
Yup. they are much lower. That's why USC are going out of business. It's also why it's better to buy them in ASDA, at a quarter of the price.I assure you, our margins are a lot lower than ASDA, etc that sell them for 20 quid!
Or rather you're going into administration because demand has dropped? There's a differenceObviously the demand has dropped because we are going into administration.
Point is USC were and are a failure. They add nothing to the high street or to society except for taking lots of money from people for stupid clothes.0 -
I think it could be an academic thing too. The shorts in the summer are the worst. One pair are old army shorts, the crotch is 3 foot long.Along the lines of NDG/fc123's dad(s), my grandpa was just the same and despite being reasonably well off was always happiest in the most revolting old gardening trews and a frayed jumper. My dad is an academic and wears sandals with grey socks, and has a selection of geeky tshirts.0 -
To be fair though, our entire economy seems / seemed to be built on persuading people who couldn't really afford it to mortage / credit themselves up to the hilt for luxury items. SUC just one more victim of an unexpected and sudden winding up of that game.Point is USC were and are a failure. They add nothing to the high street or to society except for taking lots of money from people for stupid clothes.
Don't get me wrong. I still think buy the chav / label / fashion victim theory, but without them it would seem we don't have an economy at all.
Y'see Claire6hy? yoos doing it fer de country, good on yer.0
