thinking of living together

Well the story goes

Story goes, I'm currently renting a bungalow and claiming housing benefit, council tax beneift child tax credit and income support.
I have a 9month old.

Me and my b/f who is also my sons father are thinking of moving in together, but we dont know if we would be able to afford to do so.

He currently earns £14800 but also gets o/t and bonuses. so can sometimes be alittle more.

Does anyone know what sort of benefits we would be entitled to (I have used the entitled to website but cant get the hang of it)

Also I was thinking of maybe getting a part time job 1-3 day a week but again not sure if I would be better off.

I someone could assist I would be greatfull :hello:

You would be able to put in a joint claim for Tax Credits which should help.

You could write down different scenarios eg. working 3 days as you've said and take them to Citizens Advice who will be able to do a "better off" calculation to show you your income with changed circumstances.

as I just put in my previous post to someone else this annoys me people who put money over being a family, please dont even question the money...if you have a child together and love each other then be a family and be proud, my single parent friends are way better off than us but at the end of the day we are a family unit and money is nothing compared to that feeling of being together as a family unit.

Wow...living apart so you can screw the maximum out of the benefits system whilst allowing your boyfriend to get away with not contributing to the cost of the child he fathered..

I can see all the taxpayers on here being real supportive.

Of course she doesn't. It's seperate living for financial benefit - get the state to pay.
  • Op you need to be very careful because it could be classed as fraud if you are found to be linked to your bf finacially because the DWP will class you as a couple even if you are not officially living together. I presume he spends alot of time and nights at your house and you holiday together. The DWP does not only look at if you are living together but various points.

We keep getting these questions. I dont understand why when a couple have a child together they dont just live together anyway. Maybe I am sounding like an old fart but I thought that was the normal thing to do.
  • If the op is on income support isn't there an element of child maintenance in that? Perhaps the father does pay to the csa and she gets that in her income support which is why she hasn't said she received child maintenance?

Think thats how it worked with me and my ex when i was single and on income support anyway

TBH i'm not really that interested in whether the OP gets child support, she is clearly asking which way money wise she will be better off. Screwing the system and people wonder why single parents get so much stick, it's because of people like the OP.
