Just-Dial, 1899 etc from a Telewest line?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone was with Telewest and had signed up for Just-Dial saver or 1899?

I know on their webpages the call charges are based on a BT line, but does anyone know the charges from a Telewest line, and indeed if Telewest allow you to route calls through these services, and if they do, do they charge as well?

Thanks in advance!

  • Hello welcome to MSE.

I'm with Telewest and use 1899 for our calls during the week at the weekend I use Telewest as its free. 1899 charge half a pence per min to calls to a landline number so its a lot cheaper then telewest. We use a dialer to dial 1899 as the number to dial otherwise is very long. This way we have programmed the dialer for 1899 so we just dial the number we want to call like normal. Hope that helps.

It is not possible to use JDS or similar on a Cable Line. You can only use them for your calls if you are on BT.1899 is fine as explained above.

The 1899 cable tariff is here : http://www.1899.com/mobilerates.php

I would be interested in doing this too. Do you use an orchid dialer to route your calls to 1899 ? (which I believe MSE users can get a discount on ) thanx

You dont even have to have a dialler, you can just dial the 0808 freephone access number if you want to.
  • Hello.

Yes I do use an orchid dialler I use the V2 model as I only use 1899. I find it really good and its easy to route through telewest at the weekends as all you do is press ## then the number you want to dial. If you want to use 1899 and 18866 then the V4 would be better for youfor more information though about the diallers read this thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=15502.Yes I did buy it through here.

  • Hi, I'd like to do the same as you but made my first call with 1899 a few days ago and have been unable to get a dial tone on my Telewest line every since! It's completely maddening as I've been unable to get a response from 1899 on the matter. Have you ever heard of anything similar?

Can you still use the phone to dial out 01/02 numbers?

Are you dialling the 0808 access number,or are you trying to use the 1899 code?

  • I haven't got a dial tone, so can't dial anything at all! I've read all I can find on the forum regarding the combination of Telewest and 1899 and haven't heard of anything else similar. It's not the handset, incidentally, I tried a spare one in the phone socket to check. Digital telly and broadband have been unaffected...
  • So its probally a fault on your line that needs clearing. As even if you are regd with 1899 you can still dial out via Telewest.

matildarosepink, as mentioned by pricefighter the problem appears to be either Telewest at fault or wiring inside your house.

Telewest (like BT) are only responsible for any wiring going to the first main/master Telewest socket. All other extensions wired after this main/master socket are your responsibility unless Telewest installed the extensions for you.

Can you plug in a phone known to work into Telewest's main/master telephone socket and see if this works at all (unplugging any other extension plugged into it).

You may find that other extensions are wired internally into the first main/master telewest socket. If this is the case, and it is most likely, then see this thread.

Although the thread mentioned above is for a BT line, most things are still applicable except obviously it's a Telewest box and not BT and the 17070 (quiet line test) probably doesn't work on telewest lines just BT.

If telewest find a fault and it is caused by a telephone extension/wiring (ie anything after the main master socket) then telewest will charge you and I believe their fees are similar to BT's which is about £70+
