    Good luck HOOS

Shame about the jobs coming up now - typical.

Could you not send in an application anyway - point out that as they'll have to find you an alternative to the job you were doing (and can no longer do partly to them being so slow at sorting things out) you'll be ideal for this. After all, it's not your fault that you're on sick, surely you shouldn't be discriminated against due to their incompetence ... (though I might put it slightly differently in a covering letter...;))

  • I just keep getting told that I can't apply for jobs internally while I'm off sick. They would have to officially admit that they caused my injury in order for me to argue otherwise, and I think the chances of them doing that are pretty slim. Grr.

Have been phoning work and occy health today to try to get this sorted out asap.

Unfortunately all this means I might have to withold that div's notice for another month, as I'm gonna lose around £170 a week being on half pay, and who knows how long that will go on for. I may not be in a position to risk going without his rent :( gutted as I'm so stressed out by his being here. Hopefully I'll find out this week if I'm going to be in work soon and can decide then. Need to give notice on Friday at the latest. Fun fun!

On the plus side, I managed to redo the seal on my shower tray, and left handed as well! I would have had to find £25 to pay someone to do it so quite pleased with myself there, and despite doing it one handed I must say I've done a rather impressive job! (Maybe when my hand is better I should work on the side as a handyman. Or handywoman, I should say!)

    hi

sorry to hear what your going through at the moment

is there any way you could find a lodger on the QT
and explain to them the situation with the pain

then you might be able to have someone lined up
to take his room and you wont lose out on money

bit sneeky but just a thought

  • Thanks Kas - I've actually put some free ads up stating that the room's not available for viewings yet but will be soon...no bites so far :( ah well, wont be too long hopefully!
  • Grrr damn E-On Quidco payment has been declined for the THIRD TIME!! How annoying. It's not on, I've held up my end of the bargain, and they're just trying to screw me out of £70. The scoundrels!!!!!!
  • Hi Head, Love reading your diary, so funny and inspiring at the same time. :)

Regarding your job, do you have a union? What happens if your employers admit fault, does that mean you get back dated (full) pay? Can you not take them to an employment tribunal? Or is it a case of you have to wait for them to make a decision and can then decide to go down that route? It seems really messed up to me that you seem to be stuck in limbo not being able to work or seek another job (and therefore make further inroads in paying off your debts) all because of your employers are taking their sweet old time admitting liability.

    Thinking of you xx
  • Hiya ENQ,

Yeh in the union, I've actually already put in an injury claim as have a lot of people, in an attempt to force them to change things (and of course, if they want to compensate me for my pain I wouldn't say no) but these things are so hard to win, and I know I'll be lucky if I get anywhere with that.

I doubt they'd admit liability, it'll be down to me to prove. Any reasonable person would conclude that they f****d my arm up good and proper through their negligence, but these things are never so clear cut and the employers are looked after a lot more than the employees unfortunately. Rubbish.

I've spoken to my LM today and apparently despite the OH nurse requesting an appointment for me to go in to see her to sort out return, it's gone through our HR and then the OH contractors, and they've decided to give me another appointment instead with the OH GP I saw to do my report. AND it's not til the 18th!!!! This is total nonsense, and is not the procedure as it was described to me when I had my previous appointments.

I've tried to get hold of the OH nurse today but she doesn't seem to be in the office. My LM has said we could work around it and just put me on very limited duties until the 18th when OH GP tells them specifically what I can and can't do.

Total pain in the bum, but I'm gonna do my best to limit the financial loss on my part, as I'm not going to let them put me in difficulty if it can possibly be avoided.

On the plus side, went and paid my fee for the counselling course today, I start tomorrow, hurrah! I've also had a letter from the Samaritans confirming my offer of volunteering (will be contacted by local centre), and have emailed the course leaders from the PGDip at my local uni to ask if they could spare me some time when it's convenient for them to speak to me about the course, which I'd be looking at doing next sept at the earliest. I've had an email back saying someone will be in touch to arrange it. I figured it's a good idea to get all the information from the people who run the course about what's required and what I could do to help my chances...plus, if they know my name & face, and that I've been proactive about getting experience etc, it might actually give me a bit of an advantage when I do apply.

So not a totally wasted day, despite work frustrations. Plus, I'm off to dance again tonight, which I'm really enjoying, and actually not feeling like the chubby girl with two left feet any more (just the slightly less chubby girl with some vague sense of rhythm now!!)

I know I might have a tough few weeks or months ahead of me with work, but I'm feeling more confident that it's not the end of the world if I can't continue this job long-term. There are other things I can do, I need to keep chipping away at the debts because once they're gone it will give me so much more freedom to change my career. See, this positive thinking malarky's not so tough afterall!! :rotfl:

I agree with those who have said apply for the internal vacancy anyway - you are still legally a member of staff. You are injured such that you can't do a specific job not ill such that you cannot work full stop. Send your application recorded delivery and keep a record of any response - if they end up trying to get rid of you unreasonably then it's another nail in their coffin. Your employer has a legal responsibility to find you a job you are capable of doing, and stopping you applying for internal vacancies goes completely against that.

I dont quite see why an internal transfer would mean they have to admit liability, unless if you were in your old role you'd have no chance.
Theres no harm and it shows youre more than willing to go back to work.

Have any others had to go off since you?

Gah for not being able to replace the lodger, hope you find someone who happens to need a place to live ;)
  • Basically they mean I'm not allowed to apply because i'm off sick. The fact that it's their fault doesn't seem to register. I'm the 4th person to be off sick with this, and there are several more who are unable to do the full range of duties in work as a result of WRULDs, they've been reported to HSE via several RIDDOR reports, which are supposed to trigger an investigation but that doesn't appear to have happened. Rubbish.

Gutted I can't go ahead with kicking annoying one out, he does my head in so badly and it is causing me stress him being here, but I don't have the option now of losing the money if I don't get someone else in. BOO!!!!
