What point are you making ? That you're bitter that people in top jobs earn top salaries? Or that you find these jobs unimportant and unworthy?

    You are Paul Dacre AICMFP.

We have to face it, there is a problem. Salaries of senior public sector staff are up to ten times higher than junior staff. They are the second highest paid group in the country after financial services. They are better paid even than the prime minister or senior managers in large manufacturing companies.

Despite the high salaries and rocking council tax, local Council services are declining year by year. Stealth taxes are appearing from every direction in the form of parking charges, parking fines, bin fines, taxi registration etc. Council tax for a 4 bed property in many parts for the country is now 10% of the national average salary. This is ridiculous.

Public sector managers opeate in world without competition and very little accountability. If the government had not stepped in, no one would have been fired from Haringey over the baby P case. These people are just out of control.

I am a number 1 supporter of good public services. The problem is that we don't have any.

P.S. I was very flattered to be confused with Paul Dacre. The Guardian wrote about him "To others he is the most gifted journalist of his generation, a moral man with his finger on the pulse of Middle England." In real life I am humble engineer (but very contented with that). As an engineer I am required to read the Daily Telegraph.

I know, these damned Church of England and Catholic folk - refusing to let atheists express their beliefs via a few crummy bus ads, telling us that HIV isn't a good enough reason to use condoms, etc. How annoying are they!

Oh, and I think you're confusing "political correctness" with "common sense".

I don't think they "refused" to let atheists express their beliefs on bus advertisments, just reported said ads to the advertising standards association as they were unable to be proven. :D Pesky asa threw it out tho - I do think the God squad had a point here. Reading through news coverage of the atheist bus ad debacle I was suprised to see it was in response to religious messages on public transport stating unbelievers were destined to burn in hell etc. I must say, I see lots of religious ads around and about but never with this message lol. They are more banal than offensive IMO, and sometimes even quite thoughtful and insightful! And I would class myself as a non-believer (if not quite as rabid and dogmatic as a militant atheist).

I haven't read this whole thread so I apolgise if I'm miles behind.
I am really angry by the number of people who claim benefits and should be working,a bloke and his gfriend and there 3 kids claiming cos they sit at home all day smoking pot, now claiming sick because he is depressed! (this is not a one off, this is the whole estate).
Single girls down my street with boyfriends claiming as "single" yet having baby after baby with there boyfriend!
One of them is even married, and is claiming they split up, and had his baby and named him on the birth certificate yet no one said anything.
I think the "get more money if your a single mum" should stop, you should be better off in a couple.
I also think there should be a time limit on claiming benefits say 5 years, after that your on your own.
There should also be a limit on benefits and after 2 kids you dont get anymore money (I know lots of women and they aren't single parents they have a partner who keep having babies, for more money, and their on the sick!!) Incase you cant tell its makes me mad lol!

    Miamoo, you have just described:

People who sit at home doing nothing all day and collecting £20k a year from the state.

The discussion has drifted a bit and is now about:

People who sit at work doing nothing all day and collecting £60k a year from the state.
