Update on situation.
Phoned the helpline at 7.30pm on the day we subscribed to this service, call was answered within a few minutes and was told the next available operator would phone, waited, no phonecall.
Next day at 3.15pm called the helpline again, and told them i would like to cancel the agreement, as 24/7 help to me, is exactly that i get the help when i phone them, not when they decide to phone me back, was told they would get next available operator to ring me, i said i want the call within 1 hour or am going to phone credit card company to cancel payment. I sent an email to ebuyer this morning stating i wanted to cancel the contract, and please could someone email me back to confirm this, still no email.
Today at 3.15pm, while i was out the tecy people phoned, my Husband explained that we couldn't get router to work, and he just said you need the disc from your isp provider, my husband didn't know where the disc was, and just accepted what he was told, the guy never asked have you got your disc, and didn't help any further.
Do you think we have got a case for having our money returned.

Forget the helpline, the user manual tells you exactly how to configure the router.
Display the user manual and assuming you know how to connect the router to your phone line and to the computer using the Ethernet cable, follow the instructions in section 3. Logging in to the Router.TalkTalk router settings are:
Connection Protocol: PPPoA (VCMUX or VCBASED)
VPI: 0
VCI: 38
(VPI/VCI): 0,38
Authentication: CHAP
Primary DNS server: 62.24.199.13
Secondary DNS server: 62.24.199.23
After entering your TalkTalk settings, Click “Save/Reboot” to activate your settings. The system automatically establishes connection in about 2 minutes. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
You will also need to tweak the MTU setting as I previously mentioned. There is an easy to use tool here http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp . If you google Talk Talk and MTU you will find various expanations why it needs changing.0

Thank you for your help it is appreciated, and we feel like idiots, We have tried what you suggested, but we can't find where to change the settings to pppoa and the MTU settings we have been told these need to be changed to 1400, so we have not been able to connect.0

Yes, but I suspect you will have to work hard to get it!
If it's a similar setup user interface to mine, you just need to go to the router's Home setup page, and underneath the main tabs at the top are several options - one of these will be Quick Configuration.
All of the main settings that espresso mentions are set there.
I didn't need to enter DNS server addresses - they seem to get picked up automatically.
Have you actually been able to access the router's setup pages yet?
[edit: to change the MTU size you have to go to the WAN, PPP section.]0 -
Thanks for reply yes we have been on setup page, wondering if we have got the wires right know, as we seem to be going around in circles..0

Once you've found and changed the settings and submitted them, don't forget to go to the Admin, Commit & Reboot section and choose Commit, or it will forget all your changes next time it's powered off or rebooted.
And don't forget to go to the Admin, Management Control section and untick all of the WAN boxes. If you leave these at the default setting, anyone out on the internet can access the router and, if they know the admin, admin login, can mess around with the settings.0 -
Thanks for that, can you tell me how many cables we should have have plugged into the router, is it just the phone line, usb cable and lan cable. thanks for your help.0
-
I prefer to use LAN cables from my PC, rather than USB, so I just have the LAN cable, the telephone cable (via a broadband microfilter of course) and power cable.
You don't ~have~ to use the USB cable at all, and if you have both LAN and USB cables going to the same PC you're going to get very confused!0 -
Your right we are very confused, it would probably take someone who knows what they are doing minutes, but has taken us a week. lol have to laugh or i would cry i am so frustrated by this.0
