Im glad you got a result with the store supplying a new and better laptop.
But only one person has pointed out and no one has accepted that you had already used the laptop well before christmas by installing updates on it. If you had told them that then they have every right to dig their heels in as the fan falling off and over heating couldve been down to you and you couldnt have proved it was the stores fault.Even with your rights this wouldve been hard to prove in a court of law as to whether a design fault or through your own mis-use.
And as for the person who said they hoovered their fan area - what are you thinking.

A fan that falls off so easily within 6 months of purchase would still require the retailer to be able to prove that it was not faulty. Just because the fan was attached at the time of sale doesn't mean it was properly attached. If there were dents or scratches indicating some sort of impact, the retailer might have a case, otherwise, the outcome should still be the same.0 -
The laptop that was "used" well before christmas on the reccomendation of the shop you mean? Yes it had updates installed then was wrapped and placed under my mums bed, and hasnt been moved since, so not dropped not bumped not anything. Sold broken, shop accepted this so problem solvedgeordieracer wrote: »Im glad you got a result with the store supplying a new and better laptop.

Ah well .......... but ............ what if .......... all of these things might have happened or been said or pointed out but the upshot of it all was the item in question was not of merchantable quality nor fit for the purpose - as it 'appens.
The little Minx got what she paid for - a working lappy as is her right.
Good on ya girlie :TMags - who loves shopping0 -
Really chuffed for you Minx :T
Regardless of the what ifs and buts, consumers have a right to have goods which are fit for the purpose they are sold and it is a well known misnoma that your contract is with the manufacturer. Its not its with the shop and the whole point of these forums is to make people aware of their rights and responsabilities.
In these times of credit crunch the shops which will survive will be those that provide value for money, whether that be in terms of monetary value of customer service value. I know that I will frequently travel to a shop which is slightly more expensive for an item for the service I recieve, if the service is not important then I may just as well shop on the internet.Free/impartial debt advice: Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) | National Debtline | Find your local CAB0 -

Now, due to the nice manager, she has one with 4gig ram, 180 hard drive and a built in webcam! Better than mine!
My eldest two boys got laptops last christmas and she has been demented when everyones on them except her so I gave in and got one for her aswell. Now we have one each, I use mine for work though as work from home.0
