Hi All,
bit of a tricky one this ! I have a 1950's house which has an extended kitchen - this means I have 2 cold water "in pipes" feeding the house. I have one which feeds the kitchen sink, the dishwasher and the outside tap. This has an internal stop-!!!! under the kitchen sink, although it is broken and you cannot shut it off !
My second feed comes straight from outside the house and seemingly inside the cavity wall up into the loft. The only stopcock is in the loft. From there it feeds the water tank, showers, bathroom and central heating system. There is no pipework visible until it pops out in the loft.
I want to do something about the water hardness. The taps are really "cacked up" and the shower stays free of limescale for about 1 week before going rank. I refuse to fit a new bathroom until I have sorted out the hard water.
If the inlet was downstairs I would fit a proper water softener, but I cannot face fitting one in the loft, with the plumbing requirements and the need to lug salt up the stairs !
has anyone got any suggestions for both kitchen and loft ? Do the "wrap round" devices work at all ? I would be grateful for any advice !
