How about seeing if a friend or relative would do you a swap for a bag of long-grain rice?
Then you won't be wearing yourself out to find a use for this...it's not going to be a huge saving if you have to spend a lot of time working out what to do with it!
Many people love rice pudding (including me). I love risotto too but don't think pudding rice would make nearly as good a risotto as an arborio rice, for instance.
You could always donate the packet of rice to a pudding-loving friend, or if you like rice pudding, make some for yourself and freeze it in individual portions.

Great idea! You're quite right - much better to try for a swap than spending ages trying to construct uses for it.

  • Sorry it took me a bit of time to get back to you
basically for rice cakes you cook the rice then add veg or fruit depending on what you want - form the mix into rounds and then, steam or fry them x

    Hi

I just saw this thread and my family love rice puddings but I used to buy large packets of pudding rice but now I can only find the smaller packets and thats if I am lucky. So I was just wondering where the best place is to buy the pudding rice.

I can only find small bags too and now it seems to be an "ingredient" instead of a staple the price has gone up  But I knew a friend who used normal value rice and she said it worked really well. You just need a little less liquid.

    Hi

Thanks it seems really strange when you think how cheap it used to be a few years ago and rice pudding is so easy to make. I remember the days it was difficult to find basmati rice on the shelves and now it is common product and the pudding rice is beginning to disappear. I will try the value but I am worried it wont be as creamy - but I will give it a go.
