Ebay Cockup

Hello,

I have made a bit of a mistake on Ebay, I was watching a couple of camera lenses Ebay, one of them was not compatible with my camera, but I forgot to remove it from my watch list. I then bid on and won the lens usign my mobile phone, but unfortnately I bid on the wrong one.

I have sent a message to the seller informig them of my mistake and offered to re-imburse any costs incurred by the seller, but they are now demanding payment.

i know I made a mistake :o (we are not all perfect) and I have offered to pay any costs, do you think I have been fair or should i just pay up?

Pay up and relist it yourself would be the most reasonable thing to do.

  • I once bid on the wrong item too. Mine was not the only bid but I did win it. So I emailed the seller explaining my mistake. I asked if they would mind doing a second chance offer to the next bidder down from me, to see if they would still want it. Lucikily the seller did not mind and did this for me, and sold it to that person instead. I think it probably just depends on the seller. I would have paid for the item if he wasnt keen on doing that though. HTH!! ;)

  • The worst that'll happen is you'll get a non-paying bidder strike against yourself. Even though eBay says its legally enforceable to buy the product, it really isn't. It sounds like the seller is verging on nasty. You've explained you're mistake, you don't have to pay. It's a nightmare when buyers do this, but it ain't the end of the world and the seller can recoup most of their costs.
  • Hi,

Thanks for the replys, I will contact the seller about the second chance bid and see if they are up for it, I will let you know what happens.

Actually it really is enforceable. I have successfully claimed loss of profit for breach of contract via the Small Claims Court from buyers twice now.

Personally I would email the seller as suggested above and ask them to do a second chance offer, but also offer to pay the difference between your winning bid and the second chance one, which will of course be less.

^^^Nice to see Andy2342 is still full of Christmas cheer and good will to all.

Sadly there are plenty of dishonest barstewards on ebay who would do just that.

Fortunately I don't think the OP is amongst them.

Does anyone know Andy's ebay ID so I can block him?:D

Show me yours and I'll show you mine :)

God knows why my post was deleted didn't say much different than sparklegrrrl , worst that'll happen is a non paying strike. The original poster already offered to pay the buyers fees so they're hardly trying to scam are they. Looks like the seller got a very good price by the buyers mistake and wants to bully them into paying. You should be advising their options not backing up some dodgy sellers point of view

Any particular reason you troll these forums or is it just your time of the month?
  • Maybe the seller is cheesed off with hearing all the excuses from non - payers.
    You bid - you pay.
Whether it is a mistake or not is besides the point.
Granted the worse that will happen is a strike.
Sellers cannot even leave a negative anymore.
