Hi Folks...I'm back in the Land of the Cyber-mates :j Culmination of both the poota & I being sneezie-plops & couffie-wigs has enforced a 'read-only' so sorry about Dec Challenge :o going down the swannie...if it's any help, I didn't go anywhere near a trolley-full of shopping all thru Dec & I'm 99.99999999% certain I came in under budget.

MrsMc could you put me in for £275 please, for the usual 25-24th. I've decided that I really have to get things sorted, so this amount will also include petrol & gifts. One of the offspring is still very resistant to the prospect of having casserole or anything done in the slow cooker  but I guess, like others have said, when said personage gets hungry enough ;) m'be attitudes will change.....here's hoping  but I'm not holding my breath on this one!

Well, I've sent out my boyfriend with a shopping list (he had to go out anyway) and I'm hoping that he comes back with not too much extra. I've told him about the grocery challenge and he's not too sure, as he's very much a person who enjoys being able to spend his money on food. I'm slowly convincing him that cheaper cuts of meat, extra veggies and the occasional beans/egg on toast dinner will not kill him! How do you manage to convince your other half to go along with it?

[QUOTE I always feel now a meal out is a waste of money, the service is usually bad and when the food turns up I always feel I could have cooked it better myself. Hope that doesn't sound big headed but you know what I mean.[/QUOTE]

I know EXACTLY what you mean. The last couple of times OH and I went out for a meal we were both really disppointed and spent a small fortune

If we feel like a night off cooking now we just stick to a takeaway from our fav chinese. We know it's gonna be good, know exactly how much it'll cost in advance and I can eat it on the sofa in my JimJams :T Always a bonus

OH keeps scuppering my plans lately. Been trying to give meal planning another go, but he's decided that he doesnt want what i'm making AGAIN! ....... OH has decided he doesnt like the sauce i've been making for the last year all of a sudden!

Aren't they just the ficklest of things, mine tells me he doesn't like things he's been having for years, always as if it is something new. OMG, I'll say, well you ate it last week and didn't complain and he'll look at me as if I fell from Mars and swear blind he's never had it before. Or he will compliment something out of the blue, that he's had time and time again. 'Oooh, these sausages are really nice which ones are these?' Yeah, well they are the same ones we had last week and the week before. Honestly, he doesn't have a clue, so I just ignore him most of the time. :D Rarely comes back with anything left on the plate and he's hardly fading away.

Mine knows what the standard reply is to any complaints: 'Well if you feel so inclined to do any better, feel free, the kitchen is over there. Soon shuts him up! :rotfl:

  • Hello all, signing up for the January Grocery Challenge! Plan on spending no more than £450 for our family of 5. I did try and start the challenge in December but with all the extras that seem to be bought for Christmas (and we were hosting Christmas dinner and Boxing Day) I gave up!

hello can i join in please? i would like to pledge £200 FOR JAN PLEASE i have spent £35 today tho £8:13 was on my asda card for xmas so it was only actually £28:21 on food and toiletries for the week, should i just count the full £35?
If we can put a man on the moon...how come we cant put them all there?

  • Went to Asda this morning to do a proper shop. Stuck mostly to my list but did avail myself of a few of their offers/reduced items but only with things that I know we will use. Bought alot of Smartprice stuff too.
I used the Asda giftcard that I was given at Xmas, so got £53.77 of groceries for £13.77, so that is going to help me stay within budget!:D
