Its amazing what you can come up with isn't it ..I actually get quite disappointed when I open the fridge to find no part tins, odds n ends :p
Somehow its much more satisfying to "concoct" recipes..and they usually taste a lot better too :D

You obviously haven't tried my 'concoctions' then! I used to do some horrendous ones - get a recipe, never have the right stuff and swap it for something else - I was like the old lady (forgotten her name?) in Vicar of Dibley - victoria sponge with sweet pickle and jam filling (OK, not quite that bad... :D ) but they were virtually all inedible, but I did try! :rotfl:

I am lots better now, and love the recipes on here, and because I am now meal planning, I do check whether I have the stuff or not now too... (although sometimes I have to substite stuff...:o )

Quick question for those of you who shop for your fruit and veg on the markets - whats the latest time you go to get the 'extras' that they put in (hopefully) when finishing up? Is 3pm too early?

  • Had a lovely using things up, no spending day, looking at scotsavers post there must be something in the air today. :rotfl: . I have made some spicy parsnip soup, some mushroom garlic and parsley soup and a spanish tortilla with ham in.

Some of these things may include items that are past their best before dates *cough*.

I can empathise with mrs M now, in my fridge there is nothing that needs using up :( , feel a bit lost now LOL.
Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.

For the next batch, am going to try chucking in some curry powder and see how that tastes.

Yum to the curry powder bit. Have you tried 1/2 parsnip. 1/2 potato. Water, milk, seasoning and curry powder? All to taste of course.[/QUOTE]

Nope - but I will next time lol. Thanks for the tip

Meant to say earlier, Mr A have also reduced their pasta to £1 for a 1kg bag which makes them cheaper to buy than the 3kg bags (currently £3.46)

. I have managed to order £17 worth of toilet roll though  even though there are only two of us in the house and I'd had to buy some just at the end of dec so I think this is us sorted till June. Seriously I have no idea how I managed this, one of the perils of online shopping I guess.

Oh send some here - walked to Somerf!eld to get some 1/2 price Charmin but they had sold out. All uphill on the way home too! Called in to village shop, they had some on 2 for ...... but only one pack on the shelf!

Got enough veg for the week for £5 though and don't actually need any food shopping now, unless I do a stockpiling shop.

Hi everyone, thought I would pop back after many months away.:angry: I will not declare a budget for this month but WILL keep an eye on what I am spending and fingers crossed join again next month.

I have one  , if I may.

Do Aldi/Lidl sell All Bran, if not do any of the others sell own brand version??

    Many thanks

  • Hi there,

Just figuring out the forum rules etc, so feel free to correct me if I make a blooper!

Me and my new hubbie would like to join and have set ourselves a budget of £250 for January 2009.

So far our first shopping of the year was £54.55 split between Aldi and Morrisons.

So do we update on here every week?

    Good luck every one

Turbo - It wasn't a recipe as such, I just threw a load of things in. The turkey stock was a really good one, with lots of meat in it so I whizzed that up. Then I added a generous dollop of double cream, finely diced a couple of potatoes, a handful of leeks and some dried thyme. Let it all cook in for about half an hour, lots of salt & pepper to taste then chucked it all in the blender.

OH said it was the best soup he's ever tasted! :j
