Welcome happyjazza and all newbies :hello:
It's worth reading through squeaky's Welcome to Old Style thread and then there are the Indexed Collections where you'll find information on how save money on food, laundry, cleaning and anything else you can think of.
There's more information here in Old Style than you can shake a stick at, but don't get overwhelmed, its best to start slowly.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

The kettle blew up yesterday. Well it didn't so much blow up as shut the house down. Fortunately it was only 6 months old so took it back for a refund and bought a shiny new one. Did the weeks shop whilst I was there. Lots of whoopsied milk at 15p a pint now safely in the freezer. Unfortunately OH and DDs came aloong to keep me company. DDs were fab, not a single request for sweets, or crisps. DD1 swapped Tinkerbell the Movie for a Wii game and paid the difference from her birthday money thus guaranteeing a few days peace and two exhausted children. Its a cheerleading game involving the Wii Fit, obviously its morelike glamourous step aerobics but its keeping them amused.
OH was moderately restrained. Still insisted on proper CocaCola at £1.50 a bottle but as this was instead of wine I can't complain too much. £3 on horrible horrible synthetic spreads " I can't believe its not pureed All Day Breakfast flavoured babyfood" for his lunches this week as hes home alone. All in all £32.03.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
And can anyone tell me if Mr T's value potatoes actually exist?? We have had a Mr T's in my local town for a couple of years now and I have NEVER EVER seen any! I usually go in the evening after work, so used to wonder if maybe I was just too late. But I have a theory that they just keep an empty bin there so that shoppers think they have missed a bargain and have to buy the more expensive spuds anyway!
:rotfl:
I bought value tatties in our Tesco yonks ago (ungraded and a mixture of unspecified varieties) but now there doesn't even seem to be a bin!! There seem to be fewer and fewer value lines available - or is it just that there are fewer of the value items that I want? I managed to grab the last pack of value porridge oats the other day, although last time I bought oats the value pack wasn't the cheapest. It seems to me you always need to compare.
It's really cold here so I'm going to make soup this morning from some of the delicious Christmas turkey stock, some beans that have been soaking all night and some veggies. With hm bread - the bm has just pinged and the smell is making me sooooo hungry - that should be a lovely winter soup.
Have a good day everyone.0 -
Spent another £8.62 yesterday. I must get myself organised for the rest of the month!
We've got plent of stuff in so why do i keep buying stuff? Our freezers are chocca and we've got plenty of fresh in.
OH keeps scuppering my plans lately. Been trying to give meal planning another go, but he's decided that he doesnt want what i'm making AGAIN! So my plan is to make HIM a curry, he's also got fish and pasta n sauce that i wont eat, plus i'll be using up odds n sodds of jars that would otherwise just be left sitting there. I'll have pasta bake - OH has decided he doesnt like the sauce i've been making for the last year all of a sudden! so i'll make a batch of sauce n freeze it so i can use it when i want. I'll also be having jacket spuds too (they will need using soon).
 I hate having to do different meals for us all. He'll just have to learn to live with whatever i make him from end of next week tho.£387.39/£196.46

Have just had some good news ! :j The lady who we share an allotment with has said we could have another 2 beds (which now in effect makes a whole 1/2 plot !) ........ so, even more growing space which should cut our food bill down tenfold in the summer months ........ hmmmmmm, now what extra to grow ???
Today should be a NSD here but I will have to go and get some ladies bits and bobs tomorrow  (cost me a fortune - 3 of us !)
Mrs M ... i'm thinking of coming over there for a visit just to buy the whoopsies ! :rotfl::jWeight loss to date 1st 11.5lb :j0 -
