Hi, I'd like to join the challenge for February. I've had no idea what I've been spending, but going through budgets etc for CCCS, I'm putting myself down for £200 (myself, DS16, DD12 and 2 kitties). Hopefully if I can manage this I might be able to reduce it next month, but I'm counting my chickens before they're hatched!

    Thanks for everyone's inspiration here!

  • I spent £3.99 on cola and ham making a total overspend of £127.07.
  • Have got £1.76 to last until 31st Jan. Will just cover my milk needs  - I find I am getting addicted to hot cocoa last thing at night but is expensive habit (both financially and calorifically - sometimes I need two mugs!)

I probably have enough in to keep us going but OH will no doubt think we are not eating proper meals - he is no expert however - today he said that the chicken they cooked on a tv show looked uncooked because the chicken meat was white  He said it should look brown if it is cooked properly.
Asked him how many chickens had he cooked - nary a one!

Will report final figures on 31st Jan
    Good night

I know this 5 week month hasn't worked out for some people, but because all my big Direct Debits come out on the 27th it means that this month has actually been easier for me than it otherwise might have been. I have about £2.50 of my budget left to spend, i will probably buy milk with that on Thursday or Friday.

Well done to everyone who is trying their best to make conscious and well planned choices about how they spend their grocery money!

  • Hi all,

Did final shop of the month on Sunday - total of £56.51, which puts me over budget by £19.53 - not too sad about that as we came back from holiday to empty cupboards, still quite empty, but have all meals for this week sorted and will start bulking them out from next month...

Hope everyones doing better than me - will declare final on Friday (just in case...;) )

  • Hi, I don't know whether this is the right thread to post in but I'd like to join the Grocery Challenge for February. Couldn't join in January as I didn't know how much I spent in a month, but have been adding up every single thing spent on groceries and I've spent £170+ so far!! I'm absolutely horrified and ashamed with myself, as I'm just one person! No family to feed here. It's astonishing.

I'd like to be put down for £100 in February if possible. I know that's still pretty high, but I thought I'd do this slowly but surely, haha. Thanks

  • Have found meeting my target difficult this month. Will update sig laer but think I'm about at budget now with still a week to go. On reflection I think I was over optimistic with my target of £150 as it's been a long month. When I've done the figures, I think I'll look at a daily target, multiply that by the number of days in the month and see how that goes for next month.
Enjoying the challenge though and hope everyone else is. Certainly makes me think before spending.

  • Hi everyone,

I'm still a newbie (don't know when I become an oldie!) and would like to declare January spend of £241.99. Overspent by £21.99. Was almost going to stay within budget but have had sickness bug this weekend, so OH went out and bought few things to keep us going. Ah well. Much better than Decembers total.
Target for Feb is £220 again, but need to restock freezer as almost empty  and restock store cupboard. Have meal planned until 1st Feb.

Bought an OWL so can see exactly what's gobbling up electric and switch off more than I already do. Also really pleased as we nabbed free cinema tickets to see Frost/Nixon and took own drinks and snacks, so free night and excellent film! :D

Been baking for children but they went and ate it all!! So need to bake again soon.

Am always inspired to continue OS as much as I can after reading through everyones tips and strategies. Good luck for Feb everyone.

S'pose if it looks like we're going to go over budget in Feb, the puppy's putting on weight and we could always .....! :p

had a really bad weekend, as it ended up spending a fortune....

had to get a pregnancy test (negative) and can't decide if this should come out of the food budget or not.....

then realised that while oanicking about said pregnancy test that i had lost the £200 that i was on the way to the bank with for my house deposit..... (at least that was cheaper than a baby!!!!!!)

and than as i was so guytted about the £200 when i had planned to go out for lunch, and not drink alcohol, i figured why not????? and spent a fortune!!!!!

so i now have £30 left for until the end of Feb!!!!! (i run my month from pay day to pay day....)

    haha not going too weel!!!!
