Well, my budget is going right up until the 31st, so have £16.50 left of it. Have got milk, a tin of tomatoes and a tin on beans to buy next week along with some apples for tomorrow (having roast pork). Today had sauteed potatoes with sausages and beans. I discovered an apple strudel in the freezer, so that'll get eaten some point next week when having a light main meal. Also found some wholemeal pitta bread so will use that and frozen bagels for breakfast next week with cereal. Really hoping to come in under budget and have even got my boyfriend interested now.

  • Hi All
OH went to car boot this morning whilst I was ironing - gets him out of the way for an hour or two... He phoned top say the meat van was selling 3 chickens for £5 - did I want any - Of course I said yes and he dutifully came home with 3 frozen chickens - weighed them and they are about 3 or 4lbs each which will suit us nicely. The owner of the van said they would be 2 for £5 next week as he expected the car boot to be busier - great bargain!!!! Will update Feb total shortly. Am doing an Asda on-line shop on Wednesday so will update after that.
have a good week all of you.

I would make the most of the voucher. If you can use the voucher without incurring charges (from overdraft or cc). You can always try and not use any of the food in January, possibly have the delivery as late in January as possible to save yourself from temptation.

Remember you are doing this challange for yourself/family. I often get caught up in taking this all to seriously and then have a reality check.

 You could always of kept this information to yourself and just mentioned in February that you had had a delivery for X amount.

Thanks for this. You are right that i didn't have to mention it, but i like to do things the right way, i guess i have to relax and do things the right way for me though :rotfl:

Well, I reckon I've done all my grocery shopping now for January - as my signature says, just scraped in under budget! :j And have eaten really well, too, and still have plenty in the cupboards.

I buy frozen veg and fresh veg, and then I use the fresh at the beginning of my month, and the frozen when that's run out. The theory is that I can then stay away from shops longer, therefore spend less!!
I do have frozen garlic though, because I use so little, and I hate the smell it leaves on your hands!
I often freeze apples, stewed of course, for apple sauce, apple crumble or apples and custard (mmm!), but what do people do about freezing other fruits?
Grocery challenge for family of three - me, dd(12) and ds(11), feeding dp 2 or 3 x a week too. Only food, not toiletries. Jan £87.97/£100 Feb £0/£100
Frugal 2018 needed! Saving and NOT spending
  • I notice Lidl do bags of frozen garlic for approx 60p per bag-look good value. I bought 2 the other week. Popped into Tesco today-really disappointed re prices and stock levels. Only spent approx £21(£28 before vouchers) due to a lack of availability. I did manage to get various cereals on offer. I bought some frozen sausages but I did look at the meat content and I have about 45% for £1.69 for 20 I could have got the value ones for 99p but only half as much meat content.
I shall stick with Asda and Morrissons I think for any big shops.
Just updated sig. Well under so far-only have to last until Saturday but although Feb is a shorter month it will also be a tougher one for non grocery items.
Average weekly food spend for Jan so far is £62.88-calculatedby dividing total food spends by 25 and multiplying by 7. Have done packed lunch for dd for school made up of reduced bread, tesco ham on offer and tesco value potato rings-total approx 70p With drink-£1 maximum. Just need to do the same for myself now!
Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults
  • Hiya All
Did my last big shop of the month and spent £38.02 at Mr A's which includes £2 on xmas card thing, but i bought the ingredients needed for Twinks HobNobs had to find out what they are like as they are talked about so much OMG THEY ARE GORGEOUS.

Only want to pop to Mr M's for some Branston 75p Beans and Aldi for some 49p potato's (if they are still on offer) fingers crossed that is all i come out with, somehow i don't think so.
