Hi, sorry to hijack the thread but i've never meal-planned before and i just wondered if it is better to do an inventory of everything you have in the cupboards/freezer and then plan for the month (i'm skint for a month) or just plan for a week at a time with what you know you have in?
Any tips or advice would be most welcomed as i plan to stick to this religiously until the end of January.
I need to use everything up as i'm getting a new kitchen installed on 6th Feb and will need to store it all, aswell as getting a full house rewire the day before that  but the main reason is money, i have around £15 a week to live on for the whole of January for me and my son (5), and that includes petrol to work/school.0 -
Ooh now i've got my slow cooker and i'm starting to batch cook/freeze etc i'm going to start planning my meals.
Sunday - Beef Casserole
Monday - Beef Casserole (Again! Plus I have two portions in the freezer)
Tuesday - Chilli Con Carne (Doubling up so i'm expecting to get about 3 portions to freeze from this)
Wednesday - Beef Curry (Doubling up again so again should have about 3 portions to freeze)
Thursday - Chicken Fajitas
Friday - Going to have burgers or something tonight to use up the junk we've got in the freezer
Saturday - Probably be the same as Friday
So by the end of the week, I should have about 8 individual meals in the freezer which is good for when we both fancy something different and neither can be bothered cooking:heart: Think happy & you'll be happy
I :heart2: my doggies

I would make an inventory of what you have and then list it in Word or Excel. Just so you know what you have to play with for the month, and that should make it easier to keep it varied and not have to buy additional things.I usually meal plan a month in advance knowing what I've got in the cupboards and then trying to find new ways to use it.
Hope that helps,

I made this last week but used mushrooms instead of leeks (son doesn't like them) and I didn't bother with the chestnuts either but it was delicious.Dum Spiro Spero0 -

My meal planning has been all over the place lately with being away for work, followed by Christmas and all sorts of impromptu invitations..... I am missing it very much! This week was/will be as follows:

tues - neighbours for dinner: blanquette de veau and mulled wine crumble
wed - New Year's supper at other neighbours: I will be bringing a mushroom/carrot bake (Moosewood) and pear quarters dipped in chocolate
thur - salmon parcels with boursin, HM wedges, salad

sat - HM pizza with sardines
sun - beef in black bean sauce
Great - that puts some order back into living. Happy New Year everyone!"Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0
