    vauxhall to renault?

    frying pan into the fire?

Worked for Renault for a bit, the cards were infamous for ending up behind the dash after being pushed into the 'ignition' and not coming back! I'd steer clear of a Renault, and I used to work for them! Jap or German are safest...

My dad;s on his 3rd (and will soon be 4th) Scenic with a card and has never had any problems.
On the odd occasion when I've driven them, I just feel weird not putting a key in the ignition!

Have you thought about a Toyota Verso ? I have spent ages looking into it all (with some help from this forum which was greatly appreciated). Nearly had a weak moment and bought the Zafira as it was cheaper but then read about the cutting out problem. Discounted Renault and Citroen due to reliability. We have put down a deposit today on a 54 reg Corolla Verso with 57k (higher than I would have liked in an ideal world) on the clock which we're picking up on Saturday. Am paying £5750. It's replacing our current corolla which has been absolutely bullet proof for the last 6 years and which is only being replaced as I can't fit my Mum and the car seats in the back.

Unless you get a model with keyless entry then I think the card is a bit of a gimmick really.

If you drive another car as well you'll have some fun trying to stick a key in the centre of the dash or put a card into the steering column. Also the number of times I've looked at the clock in our other car to check the speed is ridiculous.

Good choice! Enjoy! Its worth paying that bit extra for the reliability - and it costs you less in the long run. :D

Edit: I assume you are not referring to the Yaris Verso... !!!!!!!

misfire on your zafira could be down to a fault coil pack,

as for renualts u get good and bad ones like any dealer, but make sure you get 2 cards and test them, locking wheel nut for the wheels, radio code, also if you get a 1600 petrol make sure u keep a spare coil with the spare wheel........

We have a whole family of Meganes, hatch, estate and Scenic. No trouble out of the ordinary so far but I would make a few comment

Avoid the smaller petrol engines, 2ltr is the most trouble free but a bit thirsty

The 106bhp diesel appears to be about on it's limit in my estate, I think it just too small for the scenic but will almost double the mpg of the petrol engine.

Avoid the keyless entry the door sensors are a constant source of trouble and the two we have have been fixed several times under waranty. The ordinary card is fine but very easily damaged and cost £145 programmed from the dealer. You cannot buy a spare key from ebay and get it reprogrammed inspite of what anyone may tell you.

Most keys get damaged by being slammed in the house door.

At 55plte your are bang on the end of the manufacturers warany period, try to get something with even a few weeks left to get the inevitable bits sorted.

At this age you should escape the earlier, 03, 04 cars that did have some annoying electrical issues.

    Good luck;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

So no trouble out of the ordinary except...

Door sensors replaced a few times, expensive keys easily damaged, low MPG, underpowered diesels, inevitable warrenty issues & annoying electrical issues on 4/5 year old cars???

It kinda answers it's own question there  ;)
