Does that include bringing the building up to standard, parts etc, etc.
How old is the house, wiring etc.
£500 pounds for a split board sounds a lot but the sparks does not know what he's going to find does he. Parts of the building might needs rewiring etc so I would get a few quotes and ask for recommendations.
Better still, go to your local authority and get a list of there sparks and go from there.

We paid £500 recently to get RCD board fitted and full house alarm (incl. remote keypad upstairs).
We are in Cardiff0 -
God, prices have increased aby a load....
Call your local authority and get a list of approved registered sparks from them and go from there.

I also wanted to get my fuse board replaced. Just asked my electrician to replace it with a split load RCD type - he said it would cost about £100 for him to buy but didn't say what he'd charge for fitting. He's always been reasonable in the past so will post again when he's done the job..........0

£500. Sounds waaay to much to me. Get some more quotes. If the board is £100 (probably £70 trade at a guess) and fitting it 2 hours work (guess again) then I can't see why it won't cost £250 tops. These are all guesses based on my domestic wiring experiences in the past.Happy chappy0

Got mine done for around £150 i recall a year or so ago and thats in South Bucks.
£500 is way over the top0 -
I would be charging around 300quid for this job .That would include upgrading of bonding to gas and water pipes.0

Does the price include testing after? If any work is to be done on a consumer unit it needs to be now done by a part p approved electrician. If he was part p he would have to get the installation up todays regs.
This would include main bonds to incoming services,
Supplementary bonding in the bathroom
Plus depending on how old the wiring is there may be many faults and this could take time to rectify.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
This was the same guy who said we could talk about VAT - so I am not going with that - I think he is a charlatan. Thanks for input everyone - this is such a great board0

I had a quote this evening from an electrician for £395 to replace my fuse box. This would include a 12 way box. For my house the earth bonding is already up to scratch so this does not need to be done.
I spoke to a family friend who is an electrician and he said £300 was more like it - approx £100 for box + £200 for 4 hours labour.0
