  • I'd rather not go to one of these type of companies if at all possible, guess I'm trying to be as independant as possible now I'm starting to get things sorted.

What do you lot think the chances are if I put a proposal together in order to freeze the interest for 12 months on my two £10k loans and make small regular payments (say £50-£100 each). In the 12 months I would hopefully clear a lot of the overdraft, store and credit card balances and be a lot better sorted in a year to make larger loan repayments. Worth a go?

None of my creditors know the reason for me running up such huge debts.

Depends on who the company is I suppose. Whichever road you use either be it the debt management company or you writing to the companies asking to freeze interest yourself (which is basically one the things these companies do and they are charities too), it will be marked down in your credit file.

  • When you say 'marked in my credit file' what does this mean exactly?

Will it affect my ability to secure a mortgage for example? A long way of with my current situation I know but something I need to keep in mind.

I'm not sure what it says exactly. i maybe be wrong but i'm sure i've read it on here somewhere.

It may say something along the lines of 'Repayment Plan in progress' or something like that!! But please don't quote me it's something i've read somewhere.

In terms of securing a mortgage I don't know i'm afraid! Anyone else have any Ideas??

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

If you go on the national debt help line website you can download some letters that ask for interest to be frozen on your debts, there is also a SOA on there which you can print off and put with the letters or you can request they send you a help pack. Mine came today, its in a plain envelope so no ones knows who it is from :)

I would suggest you call CCCS though, I made the call this morning and its put my mind at rest if nothing else. I have my appointment tomorrow.

I hope everything works out for you :)
