I was advised that I should bring the other dress back for a credit and then re purchase at the lower price, however my Christmas party was the next day so I didn't have time to do that!

I think the staff member had been very accommodating. You had no legal right to demand the dress at the cheaper price, but were offered this. It was YOU who chose not to take them up on the offer because the time scale didn't suit you. Unfortunately now that offer has been withdrawn to you.

    Move on...............

I think the OP should be grateful to have been able to get an instore refund for a product bought online.

also i would be thankful that they got a refund as the shop doesnt have to do it if theres nothing wrong with the item (unless returned under the distance selling regulations to the website)

What is it with some members of this forum (it always seems to be the same ones) that they can't post without resorting to insults? Sure, you might disagree with or totally fail to see another persons point of view, but you can express yours without having to berate people.

This is supposed to be a money saving forum, 'consumer revenge' anyone? If the OP can get to keep her goods and get a partial refund too, why the hell not?

As for being grateful for any refund - many shops offer 'goodwill policies' of refunds for unwanted items, even those purchased online. It's nothing new and people shouldn't have to apologise for using them.

Apart from the abuse, I happen to agree with most of the replies. You bought goods online that happened to be cheaper instore - unfortunately, it happens. You were actually offered a way around this, but couldn't use it because you needed the clothes. You've pursued the matter further but have still been denied a refund. Only you can decide when it's time to call it quits, but at least you've tried. :T

The OP has posted a perfectly good question. She has paid £45 online for something that was £25 instore and had been for while.

OP do not let this go, definatly worth a complaint to HO. Mention that the in store Sales assistant confirmed that the dress ahd been reduced for some time. I would be furious if this was me.

    Why worthy of a comlaint?
The store was willing to give her credit if she brought the other dress back, but the op wanted to wear it to a party.
The price she paid is what it was advertised at. Why do people see anything wrong with what the store has done?

The reason I would complain is that the assistant said the dress had been reduced instore for a while. Definatly worthy of a goodwill gesture in my opinion.

Think you need a little read of the Forum Etiquette. Its just on the right in case you missed it.

Just to clarify, I do not think the store or online dept has done anything wrong, but I do feel that in THIS instance, the online store could have offered OP a gesture of goodwill.
