:T Just had to let you know I'm back from Wii shopping with my youngest ds and he got one! He's so thrilled as he's saved 300 pounds over the past year and is now excitedly connecting it with his elder brother (ds14) :T :T
When we got to the shop they didn't have the exact package that we'd seen online yesterday so he asked (bless him) if they were prepared to put him an alternative package together? They said yes & he's got the whole kit & kaboodle that he wanted, including 5 games, for 270 pounds and he got 41 pounds off. I'm very proud of him0 -
Afternoon all
Sounds like there were lots of lovely OS christmases spent:j
I had a really good one too. My folks came to stay for a couple of days which is the first time they have done this for years:D They only live about 15 miles away so usually drive but that means my dad can never have a proper drink so I convinced them to stay here for the holiday:T Christmas day was fab and flew by so quickly. We spent hours and hours at the dinner table chatting and scoffing - it took the Royle Family programme to drag us away!! Yesterday we were invited to my next door neighbours for a party and a very large buffet - I managed to sneak some of our leftovers round so its not too bad here:rotfl:
Folks have just left and whilst it was lovely to have them here its also lovely to have the house back - currently on the couch still in PJs contemplating a walk to M+S and Next but could do without spending any more money after a large shop with Next online last week:o
Need to swiff the house a bit and then I plan to make some Christmas Pudding Muffins which have just been on Saturday kitchen. Got loads of pudding left and these look gorgeous:T
Enjoy your weekends everyone

Afternoon all!
Beautiful sunny day here, hooray! Knew that the weather would warm up once my boiler was mended lol! Glad to read that people have been having good times, hugs to any that need one as I have been MIA for a few days so haven't caught up yet!
Had a lovely time with the kids, their dad has been here as well, but all has gone smoothly! In fact he is just doing the washing up and hoovering for me as I type! Kids were thrilled with their pressies, dd3 nearly keeled over with excitement at her stocking pressies, she insisted on showing me each and every one several times over throughout the day, bless her! ds was chuffed to bits that he got a camera, he'd asked for money which his dad and I have given him, but the camera was an extra treat, a bargain too good to be missed really, and useful for his photography GCSE, especially since mine is broken at the mo! dd2 was thrilled with her new phone and has been busy trying to work out how to use it without reference to the manual lol! Think she'd like me to read it and then answer any and all questions! dd1 was in a slightly shirty mood, but she does get overexcited and then grumpy so we're all used to it! She brightened up by lunchtime and has been great fun and really helpful since.
Not a lot planned for today, spot of dog walking and pottering about, and getting the excess food into the freezer! Hope everyone enjoys their day xxGC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
frugalswan - I also have your grotty cold! I am sooooo bunged up that breathing is a bit of a problem
My mum came out of hospital on Monday - the same day that she went in - as the op this time wasn't as extensive. Fingers crossed that for once the results for this one will be slightly more positive. She'll find out sometime in January.
Christmas Day was spent at my parents' house as they have both an Aga and an electric oven and DH and I were cooking. Otherwise if it had been round at our house, we'd have had turkey with peas... and that's it! It all went very well with all your tips and suggestions AND the help of Gordon Ramsey and Good Housekeeping!
I've popped to Oxfam today (which really took it out of me as walking and breathing is not a good thing either today!) and have managed to get Christmas cards for next year already. Half price, naturally. And that is the extent of my sales shopping.
We're going up to the Lake District tomorrow for a week with friends, so half price fleeces will be sought out!
If I don't "talk" to you all beforehand, happy new year! Have a good one.

Afternoon all :santa2: Well, food mixers don't help my pastry one bit! Does anyone have a Morwenna-proof recipe? No matter what I try, it always seems tough! I use the recipe as taught by my Domestic Science teacher, half fat to flour, pinch of salt, chilled water, chill the dough for at least half an hour before using... no idea where I am going wrong
Oh well, today I will drag the hoover around and play with my new doughnut makerI have wanted one since I saw the results on D&DD's storecupboard thread and Father Christmas has finally obliged :j
I hope everyone has good days and hugs to those that need them0 -
Morwenna - I use butter for my pastry, marg tends to make it tough, also you have to try not to handle it too much. Mine is okay, but I don't have the knack of light as air pastry either, thankfully my lovely ds does, and is only too happy to oblige!
Enjoy your doughnut maker, I love mine! Thanks to D&DD and that thread I also have a waffle machine and a pie maker! In my defence I do use them a lot though! Friends laugh at my cooking obsession and the amount of gadgets I have, but they all put in requests for things!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Afternoon chums I am peeking from my DD's computer as I won't be home just for another few days. We had a lovely knees up last night with Charades and everyone (19 all told) having lots to eat. The oldest was 79 and the youngest 4 and we all had a sing-song and two of my Grandsons (aged 7 & 8) sung 'Silent Night' and there wasn't a dry eye in the place. Very OS Christmas both on the Big Day, and on Boxing Day, and we all enjoyed ourselves.I will have to flit home for half an hour tomorrow to get some clean clothes and check on my house, but then I'm back with my youngest DD and her tribe of children .I hope everyone has had a good and peaceful Christmas and I'm staying away from the shops until the mad rush has died down I have no food to buy until probably mid January as I have so much stuff left over from our Christmas. It'll be nice to get bck to 'normal 'food again though.
Have a Peaceful and Healthy New Year everbody
Cheers JackieO xx0 -
Does anyone have a Morwenna-proof recipe?
For savoury pie crusts, I use half lard, half butter for my fat. Make sure your fat is cold so it will crumble into the flour and not turn into a paste type mixture. Also as was said, don't handle it too much. Just cut the fat and flour together, add the water and lightly mix.
Keep trying, you will get it.Take the first step.
Even if you cannot see the whole staircase,
Just take the first step.

Morwenna I used to have problems with my pastry too. It was always a bit hit and miss. I now use the recipe from Jamies Ministry of food book and it works a treat everytime!
I also do mine in the Food processor since I got one a couple of months as an early xmas pressie from my mum and dad.
Give me a shout if you want the recipe and I`ll PM it to you.0
