TESCOS throwing away food

Where I live, we have more than one Tesco and Asda, hence the plural being used....
(picky picky!!)
If you look at the way the words are being used, this would not apply to the above. Yes, I am picky. How do people expect to be taken seriously when they can't use such a simple word appropriately?Gone ... or have I?0 -
No, to be fair the comment you quoted was "asdas do the same thing too" - which could easily mean more than one branch of asda does the same thing to...

I'm guessing the store manager doesn't know it's happening then, as stores have a waste budget, and just chucking out perfectly good stuff is going impact heavily on that waste budget, and ultimatly the bonus for the store. Our boss would have us all hung if he knew we were doing that!!!0 -
I would have forgotten about asking for the out of date food and
got some punctuation.
I had to remember to breathe after reading the original post!!0 -
Even though punctuation would make the post easier to read I think that most of us managed without it.
It annoys me when stores would rather throw things away rather than reduce the price. DIY stores are just as bad, in the summer they knock a pound off when the plants are obviously dead. If they acted sooner they would not be left with a lot of dead plants.
I do not see why food that has reached its sell by date should not be given to the homeless especially if it has not reached the used by date. Depends on the type of food I suppose. There some things that I keep using after the sell by date and others that I would throw away.0 -
its not just food they bin.
I have a relative that works for tesco and she was once instructed to put all the childrens outdoor play equipment into the crusher machine as it wasnt worth them taking time to reduce the items. This included boxed items such as childrens swings, see-saws etc that had never even been put out onto the shelves just left in the store rooms out the back.
Not only this but they put thousands worth into landfill. We were told by a manager they put enough into landfill every couple of months to buy a 4 bed house!
I have seen it with my own eyes as one lot from the clothing section that was due to go to landfill was sent to my local charity shop after the manager heard and requested it and the charity shop then arranged to pick up a lorry load of the blue tubs tesco use. I helped to unload it all and there was thousands of pounds worth.so much that they had to transfer some over to other branches as the shop couldnt handle it.
Yet tesco dole out leaflets and preach to us all about our carbon footprint etc.
Very hypocritical.:rolleyes::A

now that is a waste, they would at least get some money for the items if they were reduced0 -
considering homeless people eat out of bins that are contaminated with god knows what, sum out of date cookies aint gonna harm anyone.
i used to work sumwhere, where not even staff were allowed to take it home and eat, it just had to be thrown! awful!!!!0 -

I also know of a shoe shop a few years ago who would throw away a skip load of brand new shoes that they couldn't sell but slash them first with a stanley knife so know one could could bin raiding.0
