TESCOS throwing away food

Our Tesco still reduces the bakery stuff if it's the same day? Years ago I worked in a coffee shop and we used to give food that we were going to chuck to the homeless people near the shop. We got told off by the council and threatened with a fine because of health and safety, we had to chuck it instead. It was ridiculous, the food could still be eaten that day, do you really think any homeless person was going to hang onto it for a week or something??0

Boots is another shop that throws away perfectly good items,my son once worked with them and was shocked that they throw away expensive perfumes just if they had a lid missing or deodrants because the lid was cracked, surely these items could be sold at knock down prices and not binned.
I also know of a shoe shop a few years ago who would throw away a skip load of brand new shoes that they couldn't sell but slash them first with a stanley knife so know one could could bin raiding.0 -
Cozza i dont see how its a vent, its up to tescos what they do with they're food items and if its out of date then t gets thrown away, i work for a competitor and we have the same policy, if its out of date it gets thrown away,0

All the supermarkets I shop in (Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury etc) always have a massive thronging crowd around the "reduced price" fridge, so don't see why they can't chuck everything in there at 50p or something, some poor sod would buy it.0

I asked about flowers that are expiring at my local Tesco and they said they prefer to throw them away than to lose time to reduce them... rant....0

Well i was out shopping at Tesco on Tuesday and brought some reduced bakery items (some dounuts & bread etc) that were out on the 23rd which was that day so i dont think its the policy in all Tesco stores.
I see your point though if its out that day then they should reduce and sell not throw away obviously it wouldnt do any harm as if it did they wouldnt have sold it to me, if it was over the use by date then fair enough!Wins for 2011: ........................

It is even more ridiculous when they throw flowers away that are past the "sell by date" - and the flowers have labels on them saying that they are guaranteed to flower for 10 or 14 days after purchase !0
