    Hi all.

I keep finding different sections of this site to get addicted to! Didn't realise this was here! Can I play too? I'm morre a papercrafter - scrapbooks, getting into altered art *trying* not very well to make cards but would LOVE to get into sewing and crochet. I love that scotty dog from the link above! Going to have to trawl back and get some ideas methinks :)

she grinch - thanks for altering the link - that is good headwear.

whoopidoo - I've always been interested in altered books but never actually done them only because when I've done collaging it was always from a very personal thought process and felt that showing it to others might ruin the whole thing as they wouldn't be coming from the same perspective - unless perhaps it's a person who is also interested in the same sort of thing.

So that's my question to you - do you make them for yourself - or do you show them to others?

    Thanks girls :)

Angela - I'm a bit half and half. I do think a lot of my family don't 'get it' but my OH loves my hobby and so do my girls.

There is a great site I don't know if any of you are aware of called www.ukscrappers.co.uk and I upload some of my scrapbook pages on there to get feedback and also I get tons of inspiration from there. They also run a lot of swaps which is what got me into the altered art side of things and made me not feel so daft. But I also do a lot of pages that I wouldn't share because they are to personal and am just going to start a journal which will be just for me. (Because we found my mums diaries when she died and found out so much stuff that we didn't know about her but I wouldn't be able to keep a diary so am going to journal and mix it with bits and pieces of craft and photos for my girls to find when I'm gone - bit morbid I know :D)

So really - some I share and some is purely for me. I only tend to share with people I know would appreciate it as much as me.

  • Have just found this thread - would like to be more crafty with my presents this year - more forward thinking.
Last year I did make handbags and little things for presents throughout the year, but ran out of time for Christmas pressies.
I was busy on my production line filling craft tables and selling to make anything else. I want to be more organised this year. I KNOW people appreciate a thoughful handmadwe gift anyday - well that's what I would think anyway!

  • For pots of gold, has anyone suggested polystyrene cups (don't know how you spell it)? If you buy them in plain white you can then easily paint them gold. I know I have bought cheap paint from the works and pound shops before, even add a bit of gold glitter to the paint to make it sparkle

I am trying to think of ways that will reduce weight just in case I have to post them if I don't see the people before hand.
*~* My life is a little mystery that I am still trying to solve*~*

Thanks for your reply - and that link! I just saw a possible answer to a huge dilemma I've had for years on the home page.

I've always been drawn to cottages and Victorian houses. So I collect miniature cottages. I made cardboard buildings for railway modelling. Then got dolls houses. Then drawing and illustrating. Then collages from felt and even started collaging newsprint to make churches - interesting if anyone want a go at that. But all along, always felt I was missing something and that none of these hobbies felt quite 'right'.

But on the uk scrappers page I think I saw what I had been missing. Those scrapbooks made to look like houses. Not the ones that are actual houses standing up, but the books collaged from card. WoW!!!! I'm going to make one and then collage the interiors.

I've also done a lot of scrapbooking but up to now it's been small concertina albums although I have a lot of large ones that I will start on at a later time.

You are not being morbid about that journal idea. I'm planning to go round the house and put tags on items of possible value, or that have meaning for me so that when I go my son will understand why I kept them. I think that whenever parents die and relatives go through the house, they will often throw away items that could be special for generations to follow, if only they realised.

I have filled in a 'our family' book about previous generations so that will be one constant reminder and there are some published books also. However, all my real life and secrets will die with me as I don't want to share those even though it seems to be the current trend to tell all :D

I'm glad that you are finding an empathic audience for your scrapbooking and altered art.

Have you heard of Soul Collage cards? You might really enjoy that hobby.

No I haven't heard of those - I will have to do a search.

Your idea for a house book sounds brilliant - I'd love to see one when you've finished :D Those houses on the home page are from the recent cyber crop - I think they are bought blank books that have been filled and decorated but would think they would be simple enough to put together in your own design.

I know what you mean - I wouldn't tell all in my journal, some things they don't need to know but will put down some feelings and thoughts.

Angela -Good idea putting tags and labels on stuff - I've done that with a lot of things, particularly since mum went into a care home and I ended up with more to add to what I already had (I'm a dreadful hoarder.........lol)
