    Holiday Glass Block Set

il_430xN.45307757.jpg, I went yesterday to B&Q to get the glass block and horror!!!!! they don't sell them singular now. I tried 2 other large chain diy shops and they no longer sell them. Tonight we had to go back to B&Q so I looked again to see if different staff might do a search. No staff in the department so on my hands and knees I searched the back of the display YIPPEE 1 block but no barcode so I went to customer services and explained the whole situation. A manager passing by was asked how could she price the block, his reply "Merry Christmas have it for free" I would have paid full price so this was great MS.

I really like that, in fact I am wondering whether it can be done just as an ormanent for all year round to give as gift. the £1 shop are doing bare lights which I was thinking of getting anyway for some project or another.

I wonder if anyone can help me with a poem/passage, please? I have bought the 'My Life Story' book and want to stick a passage at the front which says along the lines of "This is my gift to you... for you to give back to me", etc. I know a few people have done journals & jars so wondered if anyone can share their messages.

    Thanks

Loving the glass block decorations. What I want to know is how do you make a hole in the back for the lights? Sorry if you have already discussed this but I've had a search and not found it.

I asked my DH to make me a hole in a glass block we have and he says I need to ask you lovely ladies to find out how.

    Can anybody help?

I looked as well and it seems you need a glass cutter to fit on a drill bit?
Just looked on ebay and USA do them predrilled but the P&P is £80

My husband bought a drill "BIT" for glass from our local DIY shop. It cost less than £5. He was careful and slow whilst drilling, stopping/starting etc so the drill bit didn't overheat. Just took him a few minutes to do.

    Check these ideas.. http://www.etsy.com/search_results.php?search_query=glass+block&filter%5B0%5D=handmade&filter%5B1%5D=holidays

Have been searching the web for ideas and came across this picture where a lady has used a glass vase and filled it with pot pourri and looks just as effective and they are easier and cheaper to come accross and no drilling of holes :D

I just wanted to say a big thank you to everybody that has contributed to this thread. I have been following it for months and you have all inspired me to get crafty. I have completed 13 pots of gold this evening… they took me hours, but I’m so happy with the way they have turned out!

I have also made my one year old nephew a cushion with his name and a felt train on it.

I never thought I had it in me to be so creative and I wouldn’t have been able to make all these gifts and save so much money if it hadn’t been for you lot. So thank you so much!! : o ) xxxxxx
