Been lurking for AGES, wanting to contribute but not really having anything constructive to add. Anyway, I've not done much crafting for christmas yet, although I ordered a box of tic tacs (24) and planned to do those little booklet gadgets for our neighbours and DF's colleagues. I did snowman soup last year and everyone loved it.

But I wanted to tell you that I noticed in Wilkinson today that they had toothbrush holders that had tiny little airing holes (smaller than a tic tac). They were 49p each and I thought would work wonderfully for snowman poop-plus the recipient gets a useful item for his toiletry bag.

To thank you for all the ideas, I wanted to show you what I've done for my friends baby shower...I know its not christmas crafting but it was inspired by the cupcake socks-I used baby bath flannels and little cherry sweeties from Asda

    Wow, looks really good!
And thanks for the tip as well!
  • they are lovely polkadot!

can anyone give me some advice please? sorry if this has already been covered i havent read the full thread! im wanting to make a wreath this year i have seen the polystrene circle thing in hobbycraft and im wanting to cover it in the greenery (sorry im a complete novice in flowery/shrubby things!) you know the leafy things?! but what is this called? im thinking of looking on ebay but dont know what to write in the search box.

im hoping to use this on the circle and then add some bows and some of them red gemlike sprays on wires (am i making sense to anybody?lol) ive seen the sprays and bows im going to buy.

and finaly am i right in thinking that i literally just stick the bits into the polystrene? i mean there isnt anything i need to use to put between the polystrene and greenery is there? or is there any tools i need?

seths gran what a beautiful picture - how did that family of 12+ make those lovely lights for the path? surely not just paper bags and tea lights? sorry - forgot to say hi, its me and Im back for a quick update - have been absent for a while but feeling very christmassy now...
and yippy kay yay - I am no expert deefinitely but have made wreaths in the past by taking ivy and any green foliage, although pine is good - and laying it out in a circle, then wrapping with long plastic covered wire that you can get on a roll from diy shops - once you have built the circle and got a base going, you just keep adding to it and can then stick bits of foliage in to the arrangement/under the wire to build it up and hide the base - last year I did this and then threaded mini xmas baubles into it with florists wire poked into the bauble base loop and then into the wreath - have also done successfully with mini fruits like kumkwats and baby pine cones. I am lucky to have a wood behind me with lots of resources,

    Thank you...
yippee kye yay just found this link , might help a bit. Apparently the best is to wrap it first with satin ribbon....but then Im only a novice;) According to the link its just a polystyrene wreath.

ETA: Oops sorry, just re read your post, it was the foliage you asked about. Oh well, you might still like the link.

Seems to be quite good value.

Oops sorry they didn't make those lights just an example of what to do. Gosh though I'm sure they could. She played various instruments etc and taught all her children to play and I have never heard her shout or her husband. Just one of those calm families! Apparently the article where I saw the lights said they were carved out of the iced snow, bit like a mini igloo I guess :)

    Hi Everyone,

    HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!

This is great it's only January and I have people to chat to about next Christmas already :j - I wasn't really prepared last year due to a 16 day holiday in November and promising not to do anything for Christmas until we'd returned. However, I did manage to make:-
    • Hamper for my Grandad
    • A diabetic hamper for my OH's Grandma
    • Movie night bags for friends and relatives
    • 2 self designed printed t-shirts, which we're a nightmare at first. (Nelmer I got my paper from www.craftycomputerpaper.co.uk who advised to use baking parchment or silicon to iron on the design - I can tell you that the baking paper did NOT work, the design stuck to the paper more than the t-shirt, but I got a silicon baking sheet from Home Bargains and that worked a treat)
    • 2 Astronaut suits for my nephews, with a lot of help from my Mummy, which looked absolutely FAB, even if I do say so myself.
I didn't get round to the Genie Bottle as the astronaut suits took up such a lot of time (and space) so I'll try that for this year and if it works maybe I can make a few more :D

My husband was most impressed this year as just doing these few things myself we spent much less than we normally do, and as much as he complained about the mess everywhere and the lack of time he got my attention, I know he's a convert. How do I know this??? Because about 2 weeks before Christmas he asked if I had a box he could use........ and inside this very box on Christmas day was an assortment of liquorices, my favourites and new ones he'd found, it was lovely and so thoughtful :smileyhea
It's more catching than flu, this crafty business

    Hello, what are genie bottles?

  • A am still getting messages from people asking for journal jar questions for a child's jar that I posted a picture of in 2007! To save people having to send individual messages I hope it is OK if I post a link to it

Thanks for this thread and for all the ideas and pictures, you are a very clever bunch.
