Just a quick word of warning to anyone on here...

To either make soap as has been suggested or to remove packaging from soap and give it as a gift is ILLEGAL unless you hold the relevent safety assessments for the items carried out by a chartered chemist. ALL cosmetic items must also be labelled correctly with full INCI names for ingredients, batch numbers and you must keep a product information file.

If you do not do any of the above you are breaking the law and could be prosecuted - even if just giving it to your mum for christmas!

 really?? So you can't sell them at a car boot either?

Absolutely not!! In order to make your own to sell, you would need a safety assessment (around £150 per product) and then you would need to comply with other regulations such as labelling etc. It's a very complicated business.

If you buy in soap, you can give it away or sell it but you need to make sure the original seller has a safety assessment to make it and the information on the original label is still present on the finished product so that whoever receives/buys it can read the information without opening it.

If you need any more information, please let me know. I've just started out selling my own handcrafted soaps and cosmetics and it has been a hard slog making sure I am completely legal.

  • Your signs are gorgeous! are they hard to make? any tips for us making some?
I bought the blank signs from an ebay shop
    http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/atcsigns__W0QQ_armrsZ1
I used to paint ceramic models, so used the same techniques i used to paint them, and started off by painting the signs white to give me a base colour. i then painted them up in colours i thought would be nice. for the edge, i used a hard brush, and it gave it a spiky look. for the dots, i used the end of a brush.
i didnt find them too hard, but i enjoy painting. they dont look too perfect, but i think this adds to their rustic, boho look.

Hi all loving all your goodies you are all so talented. Pink fairy love your signs can you tell me what sort of paint you used for them as I have bought some hearts and thought I would make some personalised pressies for Xmas but dont know where to start. Need to keep costs down this year as OH was made redundant earlier in the year.

i used acrylic paint like this one
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DECOART-ACRYLIC-PAINT-59ml-BRIGHT-PURPLE-WATERBASED-ART_W0QQitemZ370215804673QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Crafts_DrawingSupplies_EH?hash=item563294df01&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
i used to use these paints for ceramics too
I'm going to be painting some hearts for my wedding favours!

Does any one has any ideas as to what i could do with white tiles. I have about 100 left over from re-doing our kitchen.

Also what pen do you use on the signs to do the wording, do you use a special pen or an everyday pen. I'd love to make a few.
I use a Sakura gelly roll glaze pen, usually in black, but you can get other colours, i'm sure the ebay seller who has the wooden signs sells the pens too. the glaze pen, gives it a lovely glazed finish, but you would probably be able to use a rollerball pen too.

hope this helps you. Thank you for all the compliments. everybodys projects look great. i cant wait for christmas. i hope appreciate the handcrafted stuff. I'm trying to save for my wedding, so this is helping a lot.
