Mr T had some perspex clipboards today with pad and pen for a quid and Im wondering what I could do with them for xmas, they were about 8 inches by 5 inches.

How about replacing the notebooks (use them for something else) with some personalised Christmas Thank You notes? Print them off the computer, use stamps, punches-whatever you happen to have in your craft box already, really.

    Hi,
I ve just got a Laminating machine (freecycle) and was going to let my Nieces and Nephew make coasters and place mats for there parents for christmas, using photos of themselves on some card and maybe letting them do some drawing round the card, then i was going to put that onto old coasters and placemats---however i have just realised these would be too thick to go through the laminating machine--anyone got any idea,s?,

If i just laminate the card i think that would look a bit thin plus it would,nt protect surfaces as much, any advice would be appreciated,

You could back the laminate with sticky-back felt. It's not cheap, though, unfortunately, and you'll have to bear in mind that if you want your laminated items to be waterproof you have to leave a bit of the seal when you're cutting them out. So whatever you back them with will show a little bit.

If you already have craft glue and felt hanging around, you could try giving the back of the laminated photograph a good covering (especially at the edges), sticking over a square of regular felt and trimming to fit. But it's the sort of thing you might want to practise with before you risk the nieces' and nephew's work...

  • Does anyone remember the below plastic ice cream cones? and where I'd get them from with or without whatever the content was - I can't remember now just remember I used to eat them as a child or a least play with the plastic container. Thought they would be brill in my holiday themed hamper, my web searches aren't turning anything up though

Early Learning Centre sells ice cream sets (three cones and two tubs-so that's five hampers) for £8. Ouch.

Also, aquarterof.com does a couple of different kinds of ice cream flavoured lollies. They may even do those ice cream shaped penny sweets somewhere.

Great idea, though. I did something a bit similar for birthdays this year after I picked up a pink and a blue sun lounger each (£6, reduced from £40) in November. It went down very well :)

Just another thought-rather than spending money on something that, though pretty, is destined ultimately for landfill, how about filling a nice waffle cone with a white chocolate Rocky Road recipe and presenting it in a cellophane twist or one of those cone bags people use for the Snowman soup? I bet you could make a lot of those for £8.

laurel7172 - I've had a look at those ELC ones, and wouldn't mind spending the money if it was for a kiddy & would have more than the initial novelty factor however for my 31 year old sis she can forget it... I've had a look at a couple of novelty sweetie places and can find ice cream sweets but not the platic ones in the above piccy. Love your idea about the sun loungers as well will have to start seaking one out.

I'm beginning to want some for me for purely decorative purposes now, how frustrating that I can't find any, maybe my mums still got them in the junk filled attic I'll have to check out that avenue...

UPDATE! Whoops just realised why I couldn't find them in any sweet shops - they're ruddy ice cream bubbles that would explain a lot :o:o Found them on the below and a million other places
    http://www.bakerross.co.uk/product-Scented-Ice-Cream-Bubbles-P239.htm mystery solved :rotfl:

Don,t suppose you can make a verse up for coffee snowman soup can you? LOL, i,ve had some made up for a while but no verses on them:confused:

The poem on the original link would work fine for coffee too, I think. However...

    WAITING UP FOR SANTA

I hope this this Snowman Soup just might
Help you sit up Christmas night.
Lay a mince pie as the bait,
Stake out the fireplace, lie in wait.

But, oops, it seems I have it wrong.
Father Christmas has been and gone.
So grab a mug, stir and relax.
There's always next year-he'll be back!

I bought some of these for my daughters party bags, I had them from Tesco's and they came in packs of 3 or 4. They were filled with bubbles.
