Well I've just finished reading this whole thread, as well as last year's thread, and the Christmas section in my Favourites folder is full to bursting with great ideas!

So far on my list of gifts I have to make is-

A black and white stripy Newcastle United sock monkey for my OH. Found a mini black Newcastle scarf lying around as well so I'm going to have him wear that

A cuddly totem from his favourite game World of Warcraft.

This 'Mario through the NES ages' cross stitch - http://www.spritestitch.com/?p=108

Some felt Mario star tree decorations which I promised him I'd make

Hama bead coasters and magnets, possibly the Mario ones that were linked earlier in the thread, although maybe some other old 8-bit game style, like Final Fantasy? Does anyone know where I can get some cheap Hama beads from? I know that Ikea do a big tub for cheap but by the time I paid to get there it would probably cost the same as buying online.

(Can you tell he's just a big kid at heart? :rotfl:)

Along with some foodie gifts which I'll obviously start nearer the time. Also need to make 24 mini stockings for my advent calendar, my birdy tree decorations for my girly pink tree, as well as some shabby chic gingham hearts. The list just keeps growing and growing...

  • Hello everyone, just read through the whole thread (took a few days!) and I have so many ideas now. I thought I was early, starting in August, seems like I'm very late compared to everyone here! :rotfl:

There are other sites that sell the nativity designs let me know anyone having problems finding one and I will do a search for you. Since posting my origional post my daughter has now got a vinyl cutter so she will take care of my orders:) Only problem is that she too is living in America so I can't go play with her Cricut BUT my daughter in law just bought one and they live about 10 miles away :) This is not advertising but my daughter is hoping to take orders from people.

Just wondered if anyone knew of any sites for the nativity vinyl designs or if your daughter was taking orders Sethsgran? I think my mother in law would love these.

Thanks Karenrel, I looked on Amazon before but the delivery cost was quite a lot, those ones have free delivery :) Does anyone know rougly how many beads you need to make things? I can't remember who it was that made the coasters back in the thread, but I don't want to buy too few and have to get more.

I made the PAC-man coasters if that's ones you are referring to. It took 16x16 beads per coaster = 256 beads
    http://www.geekalerts.com/pac-man-coasters/

I never did the super Mario ones since I didn't have the right colour at the time (Ikea didn't have brown, beige or gray beads in their container)but if you look at the picture you can count the beads and see that they are slightly larger than the pac-man
    http://www.artfire.com/modules.php?name=Shop&op=listing&product_id=273831 (takes 20x20 beads)
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=28750508 (takes 18x18 beads) This link you can click and enlarge the picture and count the beads, makes it easy to copy them instead of buying them

I'm doing these with my 6yr old at the moment

Yeah it was the pacman ones I was thinking of :) so a tub of 3000 should be enough to make a set or two of different ones you reckon? I remember looking at that etsy seller ages ago and thinking they were a great idea, saw a guy at a car boot sale selling Mario and pacman hama bead stuff as well, was tempted to buy some but they were quite expensive and would prefer to make it myself :D

3000 should be plenty. You'd be surprised how easy and quick they are to make. I went a step further thought and separated all the colours into different jars the night before and it made such a difference.
