Mary, I really like those safekeeping jars - such a good idea, I think I'll do one for my mum as the way she's keeping her spare keys is dodgy in my opinion. And I'll make some for myself too.
Thanks a lot for that.0 -
angela - I do too.......don't know why I didn't do one for myself..........lol Maybe this year.
Forget which site I saw it on but it worked out so cheap..........most of the stuff I had around the house anyway.
What I did find useful was if I used the metal holder of a tea light, cut the loo roll middle to fit and stuck it inside it I could then put some glue spot on the bottom of it to hold it all in place in the jar. Once the jar's filled with beans or whatever you use it's all wedged into place anyway -just made the job a bit easier I thought.Mary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

Thanks Mary for the extra info about the tea-light holder.. A short while ago mum phoned me and I told her about them and just before I could say that I would make one for her, she said she would do it and came up with something to fill it with.
I'm SO GLAD you mentioned them as I've always jars in the house and they are a fantastic idea. Even for pounds coins etc.0 -
Angela...........thats what I thought when I saw them. Filled with different stuff to suit who you're giving them to makes them more 'personal' and I think everyone needs a little hiding place for something-amazing what you can do with empty jars.Mary

Thanks for the welcome. Sammy - how about a little jar of Christmas cheer, little sequins, confetti, ribbons, bells for Christmas card making. Or mulled wine spices or cajun spice rub mix, or bouquet garni mix or flower seeds.

Oh no, more good ideas -the house will be over run with jars at this rate LOL. I just wish I'd kept the big ones I used to have.
I've got a large empty scrumpy bottle (wide base, very narrow top) but it's minus a cork. I've kept it just for the shape and the nice label. Even for flowers it's very narrow.
Any ideas what I could use it for?0 -

Good morning all,
Please can I play? I've been reading back through this thread over the last few days - loads of really cool ideas - you are all really inspirational.
I've been x-stitching for a good few years now - caught the bug from my Mum. Would love to make and do more crafting, but life just gets in the way sometimes. I have three young children, a dog and two part-time jobs, so feel pooped most nights!
I would love to make some bits and pieces for Christmas but like others on here, some of the people we give presents to wouldn't appreciate the thought and time that goes into making them. I recently did a x-stitch for SIL wedding and do you think I even got a 'thank you'!
Oh well, rant over! I'm determined to learn how to crochet this year - Mum is really good at it and makes porthole covers and cabin lace for narrow boats. I'd like to make a bag maybe or a scarf - ooh the possibilities are endless...!
Have a good day.

so i think i might do some pots of gold for family members with the jars - should be nice.
Trying to think of something i can do for my nieces but they are only small so will have a think about it. Might do them a sort of rainbow jar but with soft jelly sweets instead.
Have found a nice princess bin in wilkinsons for £6.50 - but was thinking I can use it to put her Xmas things in instead of a hamper and she's only 4 so don't mind spending that on her - and her and her sister share a bedroom so it can go in their room and be shared between them.
Also need to get planning a family picture that we'll be having nearer Xmas as part of my nan's, dads and mums pictures which will have me, my sister, my ben and her two girls in so need colour schemes as she likes people in pictures all matching.Time to find me again0 -
Can i join in please? I started putting together my list and found this thread. Darn you people with all your fab ideas;)! My list has now more than doubled:rolleyes: and i dare say it will continue to grow:o.
I'm planning on making as much as i can this year to keep costs as low as possible.
So far i'm planning on making....
Sock monkeys for my ds and friends little uns and one for my friend with suckers attatched to stick in her car
Snowman soup and poop for everyone
Cello cones of sweets instead of selection boxes
Sequin baubles - most will be given as decorations but my sis wants one for her car like a mini disco ball
Fabric covered notebooks/diarys using free samples or cheap cut offs of fabric
Plus hampers using all the toiletries and nic nacs i've bought people in sales.
Whaddaya think? Most of my family and friends that i need to buy for are female but I'm getting stuck with ideas for men now tho. I need some ideas for my dad (48) and my OH (30). Any suggestions?
