Help broadband speeds

Hi again! This is the sam knows info. Is this similar to the speed I am getting from the info I posted above? Sorry to be so slow with everything but I really struggle with all technical details!!
ADSL is available in your area
Your exchange is also enabled for ADSL Max services
According to BT Wholesale, houses at your postcode should be able to support a 5.5Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max.
Standard ADSL RAG results
You can receive 2Mbps ADSL
You can receive 1Mbps ADSL
You can receive 512kbps ADSL
You can receive 256kbps ADSL
You are approximately 907 metres from the exchange. Note that this is the straight line distance - the actual cable length will be longer!0 -
Ok so if you could run a speedtest now that would be helpfull ta.
I can already see a problem as you router is synching at 4meg when you can technically get 5.5meg but were come to that later.0 -
for stability Sky seem to have your profile at 4MB, given your a mile plus from exchange thats fair enough
512 is an 1/8 of the speed of your sync connection....defo do speedcheck & as above - check your wiring/extentions/plug modem into master socket with only a adsl filterSO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -
Could you say what broadband package you are on, from your statistics it looks like Sky Connect, which is a rebranded BT product, with your line attenuation ( 36db)you should be getting the full 8mbps.
Does Samknows indicate that you should have a LLU service?
Try plugging your router in at the test socket you will find by unscrewing the faceplate from your master socket, and recheck your statistics. If they improve sort out your extension wiring. See here:

BTW I-Plates are a waste of money, you can achieve the same result by removing the bell wire as shown in the above link. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
just for clarity...
My suggestion for the OP to read the I-plate thread was not a suggestion to buy the plate, but that the thread contains a lot of information pertinent to the OPUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -

Yep there's definitely not something right there.
As already asked what broadband package are you on with sky?
Also again already mentioned are you using any phone extension cables or do you have it plugged direct into your master phone socket?
You properly wont like this but if your running of an extension then you will need to plug it directly into you master socket without any extensions and run the speed test again.
Mind you as you have a laptop that shouldn't be to bad.
Your not using it on wireless by any chance are you?0 -
As posted above, try plugging the router into your master test socket, to eliminate any possible problems with your extension wiring and then do the speed test again, while connected using the Ethernet cable::doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
