Then you're stuffed. Since you can't possibly give notice now so that your contract ends 30 days after 27th December (which isn't what you actually said originally) it will over-run. There is no substitue for research and you plainly can't be bothered to do any. Hopefully my advice will prevent those who are from making the same mistakes as you have. Whether you want my advice or not is therefore of no consequence to me; your comments may inadvertently help others though! The "earliest opportunity available to" you to give notice was 27th November, so you have plainly got it completely wrong.0

My thoughts exactly!0 -
Yes, your right, as I probably was just expressing my thoughts off the top of my head rather than being precise, not asking for the help of someone who's went to a lot of bother to help other people and generally i'm just being lazy and stupid (oh, and the mistakes!), heres a copy of the email I got from the carphonewarehouse on the 8th December.(research?)
Dear Mr
Thank you for your email.
I am sorry to hear that you wish to end your contract with O2 and The
Carphone Warehouse.
I can confirm that your contract is due to expire on 29th January 2009
and you will be able to start the disconnection process from 24th
December 2008. We are not able to accept disconnection requests
submitted via email. Please contact our Customer Loyalty Team after the
above date to discuss the upgrade offers available to you, or to obtain
your Disconnection Reference Number (DRN).
You can contact Customer Loyalty by calling 0870 111 7200 and choosing
option 3.
Our offices are open:
Monday to Friday 8.00am to 8.00pm
Saturday 9.00am to 6.00pm
Sunday 10.00am to 5.00pm
If you still choose to disconnect after you have spoken to our Loyalty
Team you will be issued a DRN. Once you have this you will be required
to send us written notice as per the terms and conditions of your
contract, including your DRN in the letter. Your account will be
disconnected 30 days from the receipt of your letter.
It is important that you speak to the Customer Loyalty Department as
they need to generate your DRN. This can not be emailed to you.
I would advise you to send your letter via recorded delivery, as proof
of postage may be required.
If you wish to transfer your number to another mobile network or service
provider, you will also need to request a Port Authorisation Code (PAC)
in your letter. Please discuss this with our Loyalty Advisor.
For further information on porting your number please visit:

LE=NETTAR.UGTI.PORTING
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your valued
custom, if we can be of any service to you in the future please contact
us or visit our website www.carphonewarehouse.com.
I trust this is fully resolved for you. If there's anything else we can
do to help you please reply to this email.
Regards
O2 Customer Services
Again, this is not a request for help or a question, and I realise that I do not HAVE to get this drn number and I even know that I dont HAVE to send it registered delivery (it only says proof of postage may be required). You may even have the address to send it to.
But all of that is not going to affect the self satisfaction I will get from phoning them on the 27th.0 -
You won't get any satisfaction. They'll give you the usual runaround and THEN tell you to write to Southampton. The email is rubbish - they cannot refuse a proper notice of cancellation letter, but by following what they tell you it will not be possible to avoid over-running.
Once more, this is a well-worn path and one which you haven't followed. Good luck with ANY "satisfaction" from this lot once you've believed what they tell you! I would add that as with all things from them you have to read it CAREFULLY. "unable to accept disconnection requests by email" is true. "starting the disconnection process" means this; after lots of stonewalling on 27th December they will a) tell you that you need to write to Southampton - something you could and should have done a month ago, b) give you a meanigless and unnecessary "disconnection code" to quote and c) won't start the 30 days' notice until THEY RECEIVE YOUR LETTER.
I can only repeat; hopefully others won't fall into this now well-established trap where "satisfaction" will turn into outrage!0 -
Another mobile retailer sent me two cashback cheques a few years ago - as they had messed me about saying they hadn't received the paperwork on time (when they had - changed their tune with the special delivery receipt reference!), I cashed both.
