Managed to lose 1.5lb last week - it had probably something to do with not feeling too well most of the week so only ate small items of food during this time.

Well the grocery challenge is not going too well as spent £218.00. I think that I will need to decide that my usual monthly spend will not go below £200 as I wish until DD is out of nappies, but I am trying to achieve this.

Took approx £700 out of savings to pay towards the credit card and hopefully by the time the new statement comes through I can pay the rest off with (the proposed mortgage overpayment) and what we usually pay to the visa. Hopefully we can try not to dip into the savings again but need to see if we receive an invoice from BG for heating and also hubbie is renewing his motor insurance and putting on the credit card (instead of the usual monthly payment plan).

We have heating at last. BG came on thursday to fix the boiler first and then do the flushing of the system. Thank goodness as we had no heating from Monday until Thursday but was sick of phoning their office - fingers crossed continues to work.

Hopefully March will not be too tight a month money wise but time will tell.

  • Good luck with your overpayments - you seem to be doing really well, even after the boiler/car nightmare!

    Well done!

Good to hear you've got heating back; if nothing else it'll assure us all of warm weather now :D

Keep working on those budget control actions, it sounds like you are indeed making progress, well done.

Thanks shopgirl & stuart. Its just frustrating when you hit a glinch but we will try to get back on track the following month. Hubbie does not really like me talking about it to him, as he is very ba humbug due to job insecurity but I will continue with my quest unless circumstances change. Hubbie knows that I am doing this but not my full aims.

Spoke to our finance guy today for some advice on pensions and he is going to be contacting us middle of next month to see what our options are when our deal finishes.

I am paying into the government pension scheme from my recent job, and they want me to note all pension that I have contributed to and if I wish to transfer any to them. So was finding out this about as I have a company pension on hold and may transfer this in but keep my personal pension going. Pensions are a nightmare to understand.

Yesterday I had my weigh in day and lost 1ib - yeah!! Thats 8.5lbs lost so far and several more to go. today hubbie managed to get a good deal on his car insurance of £292.38 which is a £118.00 saving from his renewal notice. This year we are paying in one lump sum by CC instead of the monthly payments. Next month which is tomorrow we will need to find any good deals on house and contents insurance which is due up 29h March.

I have been doing the finances and things are really tight so had to transfer money from savings so that I could pay of the CC in full - think I was trying to pay too much of the CC from our current account and we would not have enough money for the rest of the month. Anyway transferred this money and was advised that I had more money than I expected - interest of £103 was applied - not bad for the emergency fund and christmas money.

I just hope that I get an salary increase next month since started at the bottom of the salary grade and its not very much - fingers crossed this happens.

Good luck with the house and contents insurance; you should try to look carefully at the policies which many allow you to download as PDF so you can better compare products. I found some real differences and one or two major concerns when we changed provider last September.

    Well done on the progress.

Weigh in day today and put on 3/4 lb so will have to try harder this coming week. Daughter had her 2yr assessment and everything was ok - no worries about her development.

Had a quote for house & contents insurance which was really cheap but we realised that an extra item was not included, therefore we are looking into this again. At least we have time to do this.
