I see the lunacy is still going strong on here...

I thought the original poster asking for MAJOR retailers:rolleyes:

Companies like Markies, Next, Tesco's, Mcdonalds, that kind of thing,

Officers club, The Pier group and Whittards:rotfl:
  • Whittards will still be open and trading under its name, as its been bought out , not died.

I think one of the big DIY stores must go, possibly Focus. Also some of the furniture shops and carpet shops, may be DFS and Carpetright.
  • I was in PC world earlier, must've been 5 staff to every customer. Had my eye on a Macbook but got so frustrated with the clueless staff that there was no way I'd buy from there.

Does anyone know why PC World dont reduce half there staff and pay a bit more for ones that have more experience?

Go to John Lewis and get an extra year's warranty for free, or pretend to be a student at the online Apple Store and get a discount :)

I bought some coffee in Whittards last week; they are very good. They did do an excellent line in cold fruit teas, but they changed them to artificial sweetener and I never had one again.

I think you can take a stroll along the high street and spot the likely candidates:
    • Suits You - perpetual sale and no shoppers.
    • Burtons - seems dead.
    • Hotel Chocolat - very very nice, but chocolate really isn't that important.
    • La Senza - I think it's outdated.
    • Paperchase - very quiet.
    • Ryman - Theo P may be a dragon, but I don't think their sales can cover their costs.
    • PC World seem to have gone through a refit and almost stopped catering for PCs; I can't see them lasting. I went in to one a couple of months back to buy a laptop and I had to walk around the shop looking for an assistant, and eventually resorted to unplugging a wire to set off an alarm to get some attention. The sales assistant didn't really know that much and I ended up getting a Dell online.
    • The shop (can't even remember its name) that sells pillows and towels seems to have been dying a slow death for a while now.
Contrary to some opinion, some Currys shops are alright, in particular the one at The Point in Bracknell; they do sometimes seem to be understaffed or too busy, but they are helpful and prepared to listen. I bought an iPod Touch on a price promise there (against the end-of-range Argos pricing), and bought a new Dyson a week ago.

I always thing the extended warranty thing is a little charade that the salesman & customer act out. I always just say "don't bother trying to sell me one", and it usually does the trick.

Possibly one of the big DIY retailers may go. The rent on some of those buildings, along with rates and overhead are enormous. Although they have well done in the past, if they've got enough brass saved up from the "good times" they may survive this recession.
My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.

I hope Focus don't go - just opened a store here - very handy!!! (mind you it has been empty when I've been in it!).

DFS are a strange beast - they must have huge finances behind them as they advertise very heavily and ask you get it all on tick!!!

Focus went here a while ago, never anyone in there. Wickes took it over much the same p1ss poor really. Homebase hangs in there again sh1te really. B & Q got it sewn up here for the D I Y ers. Any others are also rans. I reckon Maplins the electrical one may go, staffed by children and the managers are only just out of school .
