they treat customers like scum, and I hope they fail.
down with Currys. The staff deserve the sack!
Christmas cheer in abundance there! The TV salesmen in those places do seem to know sod all about their product though, I've listened to some right b*llshit when I've been in there.0 -

Yes I know, I saw Lynne Folds paper the guru on GMTV who is married to John stapples it on. She was ranting on how these spotty oiks make a killing from extra warranties (sp?) Then said how her sibbling had been ripped off recently, crap mother obviously. I think she'd been on the Buckfast TBH. Hick !!!I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0 -
exactly! not only are they rude, or they completely ignore you, but they know nothing about the product either!
once i went in to get a cable, and (as there was none on the shelf) the guy said he would look in the back. after 10 minutes waiting for him to return, I saw him on the cash register!!!!
awful place.
go to John Lewis instead.0 -
I think an un planned shake up is in the offing whether the useless b4stards working in these places like or want it. Show them where the job ctr is they'll need it soon.I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0

Well looking into the future (cue wavy lines) if the UK ever gets a decent broadband network, we could end up in a situation where we no longer buy hard copies of things (films, cd's), and go totally down the download/streaming route. Then you will see retailers like HMV go to the wall.0

The Pier Group
Whittards
Officers Club
I'd never heard of these before they went to the wall
REALLY? I have to say im surprised as theyre extremely well known round here... officers club is more of a north eastern thing tbf, so you may not know them if you're not NE based - they were started in sunderland.
whittards and the pier, though.. er, whittards has been around for donkeys, since about the 20s i think,... though to be fair the pier has a fairly narrow audience i think.
in answer to the original post - 10+ i've said. I wouldnt be suprised if there is more. A source which mentioned zavvi heading downwards also mentioned monsoon... so dont know how theyre standing...On the up

Its interesting the shops that have gone under as in a quick pub poll with friends we all said same thing.
Woolworths - sell everything but all over the place - none had specifically gone in there for something for 5 years.
Whitards - Well overpriced and although we had all bought something in last 2 years it had always been during sale at 50% discount.
Officers Club - Have been having 70% closing down sale for as long as I remember.
Zavvi - Know what they sell but that stuff everyone buys off the internet now.
Woolies and Officers club have been badly managed and thats why they failed. Zavvi got pulled down by Woolies who supplied them. Whitartds was a firesale as the owners needed the money.
I reckon February will see the likes of carpet shops, kitchen and bedroom furniture places go - carpetright, harveys, land of leather (or any other leather furniture shop) also think some holiday companies will go as pound through floor so likes of both travel companies but also high street holiday agents. This will be followed by more finance and insurance companies and also likely to see several pension schemes collapse as well.0 -

Yeah, I had a similar discussion with one of their salesman, who was trying to sell me a £200 warranty on a £450 laptop. I pointed out that if it broke down within a year then I would expect them to replace it anyway and if it broke down after that then the £200 would be far better spent towards a new laptop because specs change so quickly and the costs go down quickly too. Thankfully, the logic floored him long enough for me to make my escape without any 'extras.' Oh, and I'm typing this on the laptop now over three years later!0
